Haunted Hotel is an adult animated comedy-horror series that was released on Netflix on September 19, 2025.

Created by Matt Roller, it is a blend of supernatural horror and dramatic family life, focusing on a haunted hotel managed by a widowed mother and her brother, who is a ghost. All ten episodes of the first season were released on the premiere date.

The series is based on the life of a single mother, Katherine, who inherits the otherworldly Undervale Inn together with her two children. The Undervale is a sanctuary of haunting spirits and demons, including Katherine’s brother, Nathan, whose soul is imprisoned in the spiritual worlds underneath the building.

Haunted Hotel combines humorous writing and solid ensemble voice work. Its unusual combination of paranormal themes and family life has been compared to offbeat animated hits such as Gravity Falls and The Great North.

The show has special guest stars in each episode, and features a cast of comedy and drama veterans, making it one of the fastest rising stars in the adult-oriented animated comedy genre.

Nathan (voiced by Will Forte)

Nathan is the core of the supernatural storyline of Haunted Hotel. His spirit haunts the hotel after his early death, and is imprisoned in the ghostly basement where he keeps on interfering with the lives of his sister Katherine and his children. Will Forte balances absurdity and genuine warmth in Nathan and makes him more than a ghostly punchline.

Forte is most associated with Saturday Night Live, MacGruber, and The Last Man on Earth, as well as movies such as Nebraska and Sweet Tooth. He has also done voice work in projects, including: Gravity Falls, The Great North, Clone High, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Katherine (voiced by Eliza Coupe)

Katherine is the rock holding everything together, even if she is running on fumes. Her hands are full with protecting kids, dodging ghosts, and trying not to lose her mind in the madhouse that is the Undervale Hotel.

You might know Eliza Coupe from Happy Endings, Scrubs, Casual, Future Man, and The Residence. Her mix of sharp wit and actual feelings makes the weird ghost situation feel almost believable.

Ben (voiced by Skyler Gisondo)

Ben is Kathreine’s son. He is the only sane person in a sea of ghosts and weirdos. Ben is just trying to do regular teenage stuff, but he has to deal with spirits and demons.

Skyler Gisondo is recognized for his work in Booksmart, Licorice Pizza, Santa Clarita Diet, and The Righteous Gemstones. He nails the whole uncomfortable-but-funny vibe and makes Ben both skeptical and somehow still game for a supernatural saga.

Esther (voiced by Natalie Palamides)

Esther is Katherine’s younger kid, who just embraces all the supernatural chaos in Undervale and doesn’t even flinch. She is driven by curiosity, adventurous spirit, and quirkiness. The show feeds on her energy.

She is voiced by Natalie Palamides, the voice behind Buttercup in the Powerpuff Girls reboot. Palamides is also known for Grimsburg, Tiny Toons Looniversity, and Merry Little Batman. She brings Esther a punchy, trouble-starting humor you can’t help but love.

Abaddon (voiced by Jimmi Simpson)

Abaddon is a demon who inhabits some young boy’s body, which is as creepy as it sounds. At first, he is a total nightmare fuel. Then, he starts going along with Katherine and her kids, cracking sharp jokes and actually backing them up when it counts. It shouldn’t work, but somehow it does.

Jimmi Simpson, recognized for Westworld, Dark Matter, House of Cards, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Pachinko, nails that combo of menace and charisma.
