It has been over three months since the release of The Residence, and ever since, fans have been wondering about the future of the mystery comedy drama. Based on Kate Andersen Brower’s book of the same name, the show stars Uzo Aduba as Cordelia Cupp.

Cordelia is a consultant with the Metropolitan Police Department, tasked to investigate a murder at the White House that took place during an Australian state dinner. While the mystery was solved by the end of the first season, Uzo Aduba has revealed that the show still has the potential to return with a second season.

In a recent interview with Variety, the actress said that she does not think Cordelia Cupp’s story concluded in Season 1, as she could always have more cases to solve:

“And what I do know is Cordelia Cupp… I don’t think that just ends. She will always have many more adventures going on in places and worlds that she’s going to see. And that’s exciting to me.”

Uzo Aduba talks about the possibility of The Residence Season 2

When Uzo Aduba was asked about the status of The Residence Season 2, she said she can not give out any spoilers, but added that working on the show and collaborating with her co-star Randall Park had been a joyride:

“Well, we already said, no spoilers! In all sincerity, what I do know is I loved working with Randall Park. I loved making this show. We had a real joy.”

Uzo further talked about what made the show special, revealing that she couldn't guess who the killer was when she first read the script. Instead of the real killer, she thought of Jasmine or Harry as the criminals. She said:

“But I think that’s what’s really exciting about a well-constructed murder mystery. You really are kept guessing until that final moment when the killer is revealed, and their why and how. The how is always clear, but the why is always just wrapped in mystery and curiosity. And I think we have that here.”

The Residence premiered on Netflix on March 20, 2025. The eight-episode series follows a murder that happens at the White House while the state dinner for the Australian prime minister is being organized. Detective Cordelia Cupp is called upon to investigate the mystery, and her suspicion falls on several working members of the White House.

After various twists and turns, the killer's identity was revealed in the season finale. The series has not been renewed for a second season by Netflix as of now. Apart from Uzo Aduba, the show stars Randall Park as Edwin Park, Molly Griggs as Lilly Schumacher, and Giancarlo Esposito as A. B. Wynter.

The cast also includes Ken Marino as Harry Hollinger, Susan Kelechi Watson as Jasmine Haney, Edwina Findley as Sheila Cannon, Al Mitchell as Rollie Bridgewater, Jason Lee as Tripp Morgan, Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Larry Dokes, Dan Perrault as Colin Trask, and Bronson Pinchot as Didier Gotthard.
