The Pitt, the HBO Max medical drama, which was released on January 9, 2025, was renewed for a second season back in February 2025. The drama reveals to us how gruelling a fifteen-hour emergency room shift is.
The first season shows us what the four new joiners go through during those fifteen hours of the shift in the ER, which the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital's ER staff calls the Pitt. Meanwhile, Dr. Michael Robinavitch tries to cope with the memories of his mentor's death that took place in the same ER four years ago during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Pitt is set to return to HBO Max for a second season in January 2026, and Deadline has reported that Sepideh Moafi, who is known for her work in Black Bird, has been cast for season two as a series regular.

The Pitt had fifteen episodes in its first season, each episode documenting the events of each hour in the ER. Not only that, but four newcomers join the ER on this shift and we get to see them learn how to work there. The newcomers are Victoria Javadi, a third-year medical student, Dennis Whitaker, a fourth-year medical student, Dr. Trinity Santos, an intern, and Dr. Melissa King, who is a second-year resident.
The show stars Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael Robinavitch, who is often referred to as Robby, Tracy Ifeachor as Dr. Heather Collins, and Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon. Other cast members include Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans, Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan, and Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay.
Taylor Dearden plays Dr. Melissa King, Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos, Gerran Howell as Dennis Whitaker, and Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi.
According to Deadline, Sepidah Moafi is going to play an attending physician in the show's season two. The name of her character is yet to be known. Sepidah Moafi, is best known for playing Lauren McCauley in Black Bird (2022) and Sophie in I'll Be Right There (2023).
Black Bird is an Apple TV true crime drama miniseries based on the autobiographical novel by James Keene with Hillel Levin called In with the Devil: a Fallen Hero, a Serial Killer, and a Dangerous Bargain for Redemption. It was released on July 8, 2022. It follows Jimmy Keene, who is supposed to serve ten years in prison, but is offered a dangerous deal to reduce his sentence.
As to news about season two, it is currently under production. When it was renewed, Deadline reported that the head of Max Original Programming, Sarah Aubrey, had said in a statement:
“It’s been a thrill to watch audiences embrace The Pitt as an update to procedural storytelling with a cast who authentically embody the heroics of doctors and nurses on shift in a 2025 emergency room."
She continued:
''Our collaboration with John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill, Noah Wyle and Warner Bros. Television has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and we are excited to continue down this path with another season.”
Moafi is not the only addition to season two's cast. Charles Baker, Irene Choi, Laëtitia Hollard, and Lucas Iverson have also joined the cast in recurring roles.
The Pitt is streaming on HBO Max, and Black Bird is streaming on Apple TV.
