Think about tuxedos, multi-million pound divorces, and lawyers who will play chess with people's lives. That is going to be the feel of the new legal thriller, War, which has already become a point of exciting discussions among people. Dominic West and Sienna Miller will play the main characters in the series, at the centre of a scandalous suit that promises both glamour and upheaval.
The series is a Sky and HBO Original created by George Kay, the writer of Lupin and Hijack. And here is the great news: the series has already been ordered to run two seasons before its airing.
The set-up is going to be of a high profile divorce that turns into corporate and legal squabbles, court room drama and messy personal lives. The show will herald hard-edged, high stakes storytelling in which reputation and power carry more weight than money.
What roles West and Miller play in War and what is the show about?
The core plot of War surrounds two strong personalities. The rich tech boss with a lot of secrets: Morgan Henderson will be played by Dominic West. Sienna Miller will play his estranged wife Carla Duval who is also a famous actress. The end of their relationship does not go down discreetly, it goes off with a bang and turns into a proper legal conflict drawing in two law firms who are mortal enemies.
These companies Catchcarts and Taylor & Byrne are set up as antagonists in the ring full of cut-throat lawyers who will do anything to win. It starts out as a messy divorce and becomes something much more massive: boardroom betrayals, file leakages, dirty dealings and courtroom spectacles in which both cash and ethics are tested to the limit.
The ones running the show
War is not just a collection of ideas anyone can come up with, it is a creation of George Kay, the writer and showrunner behind smart, twisty thrillers like Lupin and Hijack. The director of War, Ben Taylor, who has previously worked on Sex Education reveals that the show will not only be tense and high-stakes drama but also include strong character moments and have a contemporary approach. Behind-the-scenes, production is being handled by New Pictures and Kay’s Observatory Pictures, working closely with Sky and HBO. That team has a proven history of big, slick shows with an international appeal.
How to keep up
And now the most important info: War will be broadcast on HBO/HBO Max in the U.S, and on Sky (as well as on streaming services like NOW and WOW) in the U.K. and in parts of Europe. It has no premiere date as of yet.
If you like courtroom dramas, you will see all the conventions: Clean cross-examination, unexpected testimony, and wily maneuvering. But this show is spiced up by the drama of celebrities, tech money problems and the tension of a high-profile trial happening in the full glaring light of publicity. Be on the lookout for the official trailer and updates from the network regarding the date of release.
