HBO is developing a television series set in the Conjuring universe for Max. The project was first announced during the April 2023 Max launch event, with Warner Bros Television producing and franchise stewards James Wan and Peter Safran attached as executive producers.

Casey Bloys, who serves as HBO and Max's content chief, stated once again in the middle of 2024 that The Conjuring series was still being actively developed. As Warner Bros. Discovery continued to make progress on other initiatives, his remarks ensured that the project remained on the list of things to do.

In September of 2025, a number of trade reports pointed to a clear and definite improvement in development. According to these sources, HBO and Max had already selected a showrunner for the series and had started putting together a team of writers for the project.

Reports state that Nancy Won has been hired as showrunner and executive producer, and her recent credits primarily include senior producing roles on Tiny Beautiful Things and Sunny.

This mainly positions her to guide the writers' room and coordinate with Warner Bros Television and New Line on series continuity. This hiring is the clearest signal of forward movement since the 2023 announcement.

Nancy Won is an experienced television producer and writer who has worked on shows like Everwood, Jericho, Brothers & Sisters, Supernatural, and Jessica Jones. She has worked in a number of production roles, earning a Primetime Emmy nomination for her services.

The same reporting notes writers Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires are attached. Both have genre experience, including contributions to Marvel series such as WandaVision, Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, and Agatha All Along, which suggests HBO is staffing the project with writers familiar with serialized supernatural storytelling. Their involvement points to scripting and series planning now being underway.

These updates align with the original mandate that the television project will continue the narrative established by the feature films. With James Wan and Peter Safran still attached as executive producers through their companies, the creative bridge between the films and the series remains intact as development moves toward pre-production.

Cast of the Conjuring TV series

So far, neither HBO nor Max has made any public decisions about who will be in the TV show. The information is likely to be made public on or around September 9, 2025. Before The Conjuring: Last Rites came out in theaters, even the main characters in the franchise, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, and the franchise's creator, James Wan, were heard having doubts about the series' future. This makes a point of showing that the program hasn't found any proven talent yet.

The Conjuring TV series is about Ed and Lorraine Warren, who have been played by Wilson and Farmiga since 2013. The TV show is still said to carry on the story of the movies. Any return of film cast members is unknown and speculative until HBO or Warner Bros. Television says otherwise. Official production information has focused on maintaining the continuity of the series without naming specific roles.
