Lisa Kudrow plays Valerie Cherish on The Comeback, a yesteryear network TV star chasing fame, success, and respect. The actress is way past her prime, but her efforts to revive her career and her yearning to be famous and successful never stop.

Amy Gravitt, the EVP of HBO Max and HBO, said about the show:

"No matter what the industry throws at her, Valerie Cherish is a survivor. On the 20th Anniversary of her debut, Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow have brilliantly scripted her return to HBO and we can’t wait to see that."

Now, twenty years after the first season's premiere, Valerie Cherish is returning, and this time around, she has found her way into the current television landscape.

The new cast members who have been added as recurring guest stars are John Early from Maddie's Secret, Abbi Jacobson from Broad City, Barry Shabaka Henley from Bob Hearts Abishola, Tony Macht from Oh, Mary!, Zane Phillips from Fire Island, Brittany O'Grady from A House of Dynamite, and finally Julian Stern, making his TV debut with The Comeback.

Exact details about the characters have been kept under wraps, but a teaser from HBO Max revealed that Valerie is set to find herself a part of another sitcom in the third and final season. In the teaser, Kudrow's Valerie records a video expressing just how excited she is for the new season, except the director keeps asking for retakes.

"This is the last one, all right? Last time. Never doing this again. We’ll, I’ve got a new show. How’s that? And I’m so excited about it."

Apart from Kudrow as the washed-up actress, some other original cast members are returning to The Comeback along with Dan Bucatinsky, Damian Young, and Laura Silverman. Matt Cook, Tim Bagley, Ella Stiller, and Jack O'Brien are also joining the cast in undisclosed roles. Apart from the teaser featuring Cherish returning for the sitcom, The Comeback is set as a mockumentary documenting the life of the actress in the current television landscape.

As of now, there is no update regarding the release details for the show, but it is slated for a 2026 release.
