HBO Max's The Pitt is set to return for a second season in January 2026, exactly a year later from its premiere in 2025. The Emmy-winning drama features a fictional Pittsburgh Trauma medical centre and the employees of it working a tough and gruelling 15-hour shift, with every episode covering an hour.

The series comes the the ER trio of John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill, who created the medical drama, and Noah Wyle, who also stars in the HBO series. Recently, George Clooney, who starred in ER as the iconic character, Dr. Doug Ross, revealed that if given an opportunity, he would like to appear in HBO's The Pitt as well.

While addressing his potential appearance, HBO CEO Casey Bloys revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Clooney will be welcomed to star in the fan-favorite medical drama and said:

“Obviously, sure, he’s welcome.”

The Pitt stars Noah Wyle as Dr. Robby, a physician working in the ER who is still dealing with the aftermath of COVID. In the medical drama, Robby and other Doctors, nurses, and various staff of the Pittsburgh Trauma Centre can be seen dealing with numerous emergencies, such as mass shootings, and also addressing the underfunding and overcrowding of hospitals.

While The Pitt is regarded as one of the most accurate depictions of the situation of hospitals and the employees, it is not the first medical drama that won over the audience's hearts. Before the HBO show, it was ER, which premiered in 1994 and ran for 15 seasons, wrapping up in 2009. Two of The Pitt's executive producers, Wyle and Wells, and creator Gemmill, have also worked in ER.

The ER cast also included popular Hollywood actor George Clooney, making it his breakthrough role. Clooney's Dr. Ross was a pediatrics physician who, despite his complicated personal life, was dedicated to his job and taking care of children, resulting in him becoming one of the popular characters from the medical drama.

According to Hollywood Reporter, last week, during the screening of his upcoming movie, Jay Kelly, Clooney revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he is ready to appear in the HBO Max series if asked and shared:

"[He would] do that in a heartbeat.”

He further talked about the show's success and how Wyle, who co-starred in ER with him, was "continuing the tradition" and stated:

"What a beautiful show it is, and what a great success it has been. What a fun thing to have - [Wyle] kind of continuing on a tradition."

Recently, the CEO of HBO, Casey Bloys, addressed the possibility and revealed to Hollywood Reporter that Clooney was "welcome" to join the show whenever he wants. However, he also revealed that they have not worked out a possibility to include Clooney to appear in the medical drama.

Along with Noah Wyle, the HBO medical drama also stars Patrick Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Shawn Hatosy, Katherine LaNasa, Fiona Dourif, and Gerran Howell, among several others.
