“He was such a special person”: Sydney Sweeney finally opens up about Angus Cloud's death

Euphoria Season 3 is coming soon, and while Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, and Maude Apatow will be reprising their roles for Season 3, Angus Cloud will be deeply missed. Angus Cloud played Fezco O'Neill in Euphoria for its first two seasons, but due to the actor's tragic demise in 2023, we won't be seeing him in Season 3.

Losing a fellow cast member isn't easy, and very few cast members of Euphoria have openly talked about Cloud's death. Two years after Cloud's death, Sydney Sweeney has finally opened up about it in an interview with Variety.

Sydney Sweeney talks about Angus Cloud's death

Angus Cloud played Fezco O'Neill in the first two seasons of Euphoria. Fezco was a school dropout and a drug dealer. However, unlike most drug dealers portrayed in the media, he had a good heart and was a good person. While Rue was a drug addict, Fezco tried to help her and was a friend to her. In Season 2, he also developed feelings for Lexie Howard, and Lexie returned those feelings.

However, before Fezco could go to Lexie's play being performed, the police raided his home, and he was shot. While he survived, he was arrested, and his younger brother, Ashtray, was killed in the raid. Thus, Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger, and viewers weren't told exactly what happened to Fezco. Still, fans were hopeful to see how Fezco's life turned out in Season 3. However, the actor's death changed everything.

Angus Cloud passed away on July 31, 2023, due to a multiple-drug overdose. His death has deeply affected his friends, family, and fans. Cloud's death also means we will never really get to see Fezco again, see him live a better life, or have a relationship with Lexie. Sydney Sweeney, who plays Cassie Howard on the show, is reprising her role in Season 3. Sweeney was Cloud's castmate and friend. The actress hadn't really spoken about Cloud's death publicly before, but in an interview with Variety, she opened up about the tragic incident, saying,

“It was definitely a very emotional experience to go back to a set and not have him be there with you. He was such a special person, and he was taken way too young,”

Sydney Sweeney was with family when she heard of Cloud's demise, which provided her with some comfort at a difficult time. As she said,

"I’m glad I was home because I was surrounded by my family. I think my first call was Maude, and then Jacob [Elordi], and we were all just crying on the phone together. It’s not something you want to bring people back together over, but I’m thankful to have my castmates to be able to process all of that together.”

Angus Cloud was a part of Euphoria's main cast for two years and played a character who was complex yet loved. The cast had understandably become close over the years, and strong friendships had formed. One can only imagine the loss they all felt when Cloud's death was announced. But it is some comfort to know Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, and Jacob Elordi had each other during a difficult time. Regardless, as Euphoria Season 3 comes closer, Angus Cloud and Fezco's absence will be felt deeply.

Euphoria Season 3 will be released in Spring 2026.
