Heated Rivalry is gearing up for its season finale, but the penultimate episode of the queer Canadian hockey drama has completely altered the show's dynamics. For the longest time, the show, despite being very popular, was often dismissed as a softcore drama; however, Episode 5 is a game-changer.

While all the episodes so far have been building up to the highest high of the fifth episode, 'I'll believe in anything,' the final moment between Robbie G.K.'s Kip and François Arnaud's Scott was an emotional rollercoaster. In a recent conversation with Variety, Robbie G.K. opens up about the emotional powerhouse of a moment at the end of Heated Rivalry Episode 5.

In the midst of a decade-long story of a relationship between Shane and Ilya evolving from purely physical to deeply emotional, Episode 3 appeared to be a bit of a derailment when the narrative shifted to Scott and Kip's story. However, after the penultimate episode of Heated Rivalry, this episode and the narrative have come together in the most exceptional way. Much of this was owing to the final moments between Kip and Scott.

Robbie G.K. explained in his conversation with Variety that even though he knew the moment was moving, filming it and watching it come together with the background score and everything was something else for him:

"I knew it was going to be a very moving moment, of course, but it’s very different from when you film something like that and you’re in a hockey rink and there’s no music, and the whole build-up of everything. When I first watched it, I was just giddy about it. I think this is the moment where all these storylines intersect. I’m glad it turned out as it did. It’s much better than anything I could have ever imagined."

The third episode of Heated Rivalry found Scott, a closeted gay man, falling in love with Kip, a very openly gay man. Their bond is so electric and instantaneous that Scott ends up asking Kip to move in with him within two seconds of getting involved. However, the episode ends on a heartbreaking note as Scott and Kip break up because Scott doesn't feel he can come out in front of the world yet, and Kip isn't ready to go back into the closet.

Later episodes go back to Shane and Ilya, but in the final moments of Heated Rivalry Episode 5, Kip and Scott are in the limelight yet again. Scott's team had just won the match and the Stanley Cup, and while all of his team members were celebrating with their families, Scott stood on the ground, alone. In that moment, looking up at Kip sitting in the stands, he decides that being with him is worth losing everything.

In an extremely moving moment, Scott asks Kip to come down to the rink and kisses him in front of the cameras for the entire world to see. The moment, paired with the intentional background score and our leads watching in shock, has become the highlight of the entire episode of Heated Rivalry. Not to mention, it convinces Ilya to take a step towards Shane and accept his invitation to the cottage (Readers will recognize this as the most pivotal location for the couple's relationship).
