The Canadian TV adaptation of Reid's novel series premiered with its first two episodes, which had viewers hooked from the get-go.However, the show took a sharp turn with its third episode, which, instead of focusing on the previously central characters Shane and Ilya, focused on Scott Hunter and his affair with Kip Grady. Actor François Arnaud, who plays Scott on the show, revealed that he himself was scared for the third episode and its one-episode story arc focusing on Scott and Kip:"I always go with the artistry and creativity of the people who are involved, but it's really nice to know that it's reaching eyeballs. Yeah, it's a little overwhelming. I guess this week I had a bit of a panic. I was like, "Oh my god, these people are so in love with Shane and Ilya. They're going to hate me for hijacking a whole week of the episodes."While Episode 3 of Heated Rivalry offered some cameos from Shane and Ilya, the focus was on Scott and Kip. Not unlike Shane and Ilya, Scott is also a closeted gay man, but unlike Shane and Ilya, the local smoothie bar barista catches his eye. The problem? Well, Kip is an open and proud gay man. However, for the sake of his relationship with Kip, Scott is forced to decide between leaving his closet, coming out publicly, and possibly messing up his career, or staying in the closet.François Arnaud revealed that this sharp turn in the story for Heated Rivalry is a sign that there are going to be other angles explored in the story:"It really does unfold quite magically over six episodes. I think the left curve of Episode 3 indicates a little bit also that we're going to see other angles of this story. He really uses hot s*x as a hook and I think that's great, but it's really not all there is to that show. I think people will be pleasantly surprised, even if they want hot s*x. There's still hot s*x!"Only time will tell how the twists and turns of this narrative will unfold over the next episodes for Heated Rivalry.Keep reading Soap Central for more such interesting insights!
