Heated Rivalry wrapped its emotionally charged first season with a finale that left fans both breathless and heartened and the buzz didn’t stop when the screen went dark. Viewers have been desperately decoding the end-credit scene, which offers a quiet, intimate moment between Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) as they drive away after the Metros' Captain comes out to his parents.

Though there’s no audible dialogue over Cailin Russo’s “Bad Things,” Heated Rivalry actor Hudson Williams revealed what was being said behind the scenes. Fans would be impressed to learn that the actors shared improvised, tender lines of reassurance and love (in the end-credit scene) that underscore just how deeply these two characters (and actors) have grown together over the season.

Hudson Williams reveals details about the Heated Rivalry finale end-credit scene

After years of secret flings behind closed doors and confusion about their feelings, Shane and Ilya finally accepted their true feelings for one another in the Heated Rivalry finale, which culminated with the 'lovers' driving off into the sunset, after Shane came out to his parents. While the couple's journey is far from over (rather, it has just begun), creator Jacob Tierney leaves the fans with an ideal montage of Shane and Ilya in the car, playfully talking and caressing each other fondly.

As book readers might remember, Rachel Reid concludes Heated Rivalry with an epilogue set a year after the events of the finale, where Shane comes out to his best friend Hayden, Ilya signs in with Ottawa and the couple holds a press conference to announce their joint mental health charity, the latter of which were also hinted at in the HBO Max show. However, Tierney concludes his television adaptation with a heartwarming montage of the couple driving off towards their 'happy ending', whispering sweet nothings into each other's ears.

If you are one of the desperate fans wondering what Shane and Ilya said to each other during the Heated Rivalry finale's end-credit scene, Hudson Williams has spilled the beans with Harper Bazaar. The actor revealed:

''I think we said a lot of things like, “I can't believe we've done this.” I remember a lot of “I love you”s and “Wow—I can't believe we've done it. I can't believe this happened.”''

While Shane and Ilya had perfect chemistry from their iconic first meeting, fans are equally adoring Williams and Storrie's off-screen friendship, as both have referred to each other as platonic 'soulmates' in many interviews. The audience naturally felt the actors' connection and the last scene translated that camaraderie perfectly, a moment that blurred the line between the actors and characters, as Williams revealed:

''Jacob said, “This is what ends our show. So just be Shane and Ilya after this drive.” And it felt like there was an element of both Connor and Hudson mixed into Shane and Ilya, just, “Wow, we did it. We're going to have done something.” I think that was the closest our lines blurred between who we were in that moment and where they are in that moment. It was really beautiful, actually.''

Fans felt Shane and Ilya's intense and carnal chemistry throughout Heated Rivalry but the finale shifted the terms of their relationship. While the final entry featured its fair share of s*x scenes, they were tender and romantic, unlike the passionate intimate scenes from the initial episodes. Additionally, Shane and Ilya's iconic confession scene is also making rounds on the Internet, which only highlights the couple's emotional maturity and growth since their rookie seasons.

Tierney's creative choice to conclude Heated Rivalry with the idyllic shot of Shane and Ilya (as opposed to the press conference from Reid's epilogue) resonated with the fans, making it the perfect 'happy ending' for the couple, after years of pent-up angst and yearning. Williams' revelation further proves the finale's end-credit scene was not just a perfect conclusion for Shane and Ilya, but also for the actors, who enjoyed these final moments as their respective characters.
