Fans of Heated Rivalry must be wondering if the show will continue, as Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie have agreed to come back for at least three seasons. However, the deal doesn't confirm that the show has been renewed for three seasons.

It explains that the two actors are already committed if the network continues the story beyond Season 2. A second chapter is definitely coming in the future, but it's too early to predict Season 3. Per GQ:

"Both actors signed on for three seasons of Heated Rivalry; Crave has already greenlit season two."

Hudson also talked about queer stories and said:

"I’ve always loved queer cinema. I love queer stories. There’s something about them that I feel are very universal. Moonlight was a movie that shattered me. Brokeback was a movie that shattered me."

As for the story in the HBO Max TV series, Shane is a Canadian hockey star and captain of the Montreal team. He comes from Ottawa and is known for being emotionally guarded. On the other side, Ilya is a little different, but Shane feels compatible with him.

He initially hid his sexuality and even dated an actress. However, Shane finally spoke the truth about being gay and realized that what he has with Ilya is more than rivalry. Actually, it's not at all a rivalry when it comes to their personal life.

Privately, Ilya keeps returning to Shane over the years, even though he refuses to openly name what they have. He is hesitant due to many reasons, like expectations from his powerful father, fear of how his sexuality would be received in Russia, and concern about his family.

And when Ilya's father dies in Heated Rivalry, he is forced to confront his feelings. He gathers courage and confesses his love to Shane in his native language. From this point, the story begins, and the two feel happy with each other.
