While fans were disappointed to see Henry Cavill leave his roles as Geralt of Rivia and Superman back-to-back, they now have a reason to celebrate. Henry Cavill is both starring in and executive producing the shows and films of the Warhammer 40,000 project, which is being produced by Amazon Studios.
Warhammer 40,000 is based on the miniature wargame of the same name produced by Games Workshop. To play the game, you must build the miniature models, set them up on a table, and play using dice and arithmetic.
It is not new to see Henry Cavill work passionately towards a role or a project. Since he was a super fan of the Witcher games, Cavill worked extremely hard to do justice to the role of Geralt. Now, he is not only starring in yet another of his favorite games' adaptations but also executive producing it. However, it is no easy task. In an interview with Esquire, the actor opened up about working on his dream project.
Henry Cavill on developing the Warhammer project
It is no secret that Henry Cavill is extremely passionate about his hobbies. He is an avid gamer who even built his own pc during the lockdown. He has also spoken about his love for Warhammer multiple times publicly, like when he appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Show in 2024.
Despite his obsession with Warhammer, the journey of translating the game into a show and then subsequent films has not been easy. In a recent interview with Esquire, Cavill opened up about how he feels about developing the Warhammer project. He said it
"is a dream come true, but it's different from what I've done before, in the sense I haven't had my hand on the tiller of things before. It's wonderful doing that. It is a tricky IP, and a very complex IP, and that's what I love about it. The challenges that come with putting this on the page in a way that is doing justice to that complexity, that trickiness, and that nuance, is a challenge I'm enjoying enormously."
Henry Cavill is known for always bringing a sense of authenticity into any adaptation he has starred in. Take The Witcher, for example. Henry did absolute justice to the role of Geralt, perfecting the voice, mannerisms, and physical build. While combat scenes in shows are well-choreographed, Cavill did the scenes with finesse, making us believe he is the same Geralt from the games.
Thus, it makes sense that he is working equally passionately toward a project he has been in love with for decades. As Cavill mentioned in an Instagram post, he bought his first Warhammer models over three decades ago. Now that he's working on developing the project, Cavil will give it his all, no matter the complexities he has to face.
The Warhammer project starring Henry Cavill is in pre-production. The first installment of the project will be a show, releasing on Prime Video. No official dates have been released yet, but given the fact that the show has not begun filming, it'll be quite some time before we get news of its release.
