The Last of Us Season 2 released its fourth episode, "Day One", on Sunday, May 4, 2025. This episode made some major strides to progress this season's storyline, including introducing a major character from the game, Isaac Dixon, who is also given a backstory, which is different from the game The Last of Us Part II. It is also in this episode that Dina reveals her feelings for Ellie.

It is implied that Dina is falling for Ellie in the music store scene earlier in this The Last of Us Season 2 episode itself. But it is only when Ellie saves Dina by taking a bite from an infected person that the latter truly feels devastated and turns her gun on the former. But Ellie finally convinces Dina about her immunity a few hours later when she doesn't turn after sleeping. This is where Dina confesses that she is pregnant and that she loves Ellie.

Ellie starts imagining being a father to Dina and Jesse's kid, like Joel was a father figure for her, but this happiness is short-lived as they hear Nora's name on the stolen WLF radio. As that happens, the two start hearing bombing outside. They identify the hospital building where Nora, who is a doctor, could be. Ellie requests that Dina stay safe inside the abandoned theater, but she refuses, ending the episode.

Isabela Merced, who plays Dina in The Last of Us Season 2, touched upon the character's tough choice in The Hollywood Reporter interview that was published on May 4, 2025.

After the episode aired on HBO, Isabela Merced, who plays the role of Dina in The Last of Us Season 2, sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter's James Hibberd. Hibberd asked Merced this question:

"There’s a hard decision Dina makes at the end — which becomes more of an issue as the season goes on, but it starts here — where Dina decides to continue on with the revenge quest despite being pregnant. I’m sure some will say: Dina should turn back at this point."

To this, the actress responded:

"Up until this point, everyone was under the impression that Dina was doing this for Ellie and Joel. But in the next episode, you’re going to learn that Dina has her own personal reasons, as well. Once that motive is revealed, her decision makes more sense to me.

She went on to explain how she takes inspiration from her mom to understand Dina's actions:

At lot of times, I was looking towards my mom for this role. Knowing her, if she were able to somehow secure the safety of others and herself and her baby — nothing would really stop her. She would get even if she weren’t able to guarantee [that she would survive]. Whenever I would question an action or decision, I would be like, “How would [my mom] go about it?” Because I find her to be a very level headed individual, whereas I’m just super impulsive. I’m more Ellie-leaning. Also, there’s the way Dina is able to take charge, the way she’s able to assess situations with logic and emotion; she’s super balanced with that."

Thus, all eyes are on the fifth episode of The Last of Us Season 2, which will be released this coming Sunday, May 11, 2025.
