American Idol Season 23 revealed its Top 8 participants during the May 4, 2025, episode. While some fans are excited for their favorite participants, some are sad over the latest elimination. While the ABC reality show continues to advance toward the highly anticipated finale, viewers might be expecting to see something more than the usual competition.
Since Katy Perry's departure from the show, there have been many fans who were devastated. Even though she announced her departure beforehand, to pursue her Lifetimes tour, fans were unhappy and did not want her to leave. Apart from that, there are a few things and factors that affect the show, and doing something about it would make American Idol fans happier with more excitement and entertainment.
American Idol: The Show format should be updated to keep the excitement going
With its 23rd season running, American Idol has featured talented contestants turning into successful artists. Over the years, the format of the show has stayed almost the same. If the makers were to update a few things and introduce some new things, it would surely give the viewers something to look forward to.
Undoubtedly, the show has made a name for itself over the years and has given many stars. However, if the show makers were to adapt to a few new things, each season would make fans feel even more excited.
One of those things could be how contestants who are given platinum tickets should be given mentors from the beginning to work on various genres.
With the Top 8 revelation, a fan commented on X how all the platinum ticket holders from the show are now gone:
"All of the platinum ticket holders are gone. Goes to show that it's not just crazy runs and vocal acrobatics. You got to connect and make audience feel something. I like this Top 8!!! #americanidol."
While the artists were awarded with the platinum ticket, it was for their extraordinary skills and voice, they are no longer competing on the show. It doesn't look good.
American Idol Season 23: Artists' followers and popularity might affect the voting procedure
With the evolved social media platforms and their usage across the globe, almost everyone has access to the latest news and updates. Having said that, some of the artists who participate in competition shows, their popularity and follower count might be one of the affecting features when it comes to voting.
While some artists follow the traditional ways to connect with their fans, a few of them with a huge number of followers on social media play a crucial part. Each of the contestants on American Idol comes from a different background.
A fan commented on voting:
"If people vote on actual vocal ability and not on who they think its cute or sings their favorite genre if music, Jamal and Gabby are heads and shoulders above everyone on this show. #AmericanIdol."
Overlooking such things when participants enter the reality show and managing them would be a fair competition for the remaining artists.
Additionally, factors such as genre-based phases might also be an exciting idea to be featured on the show, and see how it goes with the contestants as well as fans.
American Idol Season 23's next episode will air on May 5, 2025.
