American Idol Season 23 fans recently witnessed Top 10 artists advancing to the competition's next phase. Each of those 10 contestants has the potential to win, and has shown vocal skills. One of the participants is Canaan James Hill, a 17-year-old Dallas native. His rendition of CeCe Winans' Goodness of God got him selected for the Top 10, and he is one more step closer to winning the competition.

Along with Canaan, many artists have shown tremendous potential and are gradually advancing towards the nail-biting American Idol Season 23 finale. As his Instagram bio reveals, Canaan is a comedian, singer, and preacher. With many talents, singing has gotten him this far in the reality show, which shows how much potential he has to make it to the American Idol 2024 finale.

Canaan James Hill: a 17-year-old preacher and a singer with the potential to reach American Idol Season 23 finale

The fourth episode of the reality show featured Canaan James Hill's audition. He performed Ernest Pugh's I Need Your Glory and surprised the judges. During his performance, Canaan started softly, and then, as he crescendoed into the full belt, one of the judges, Lionel, jumped out of his seat.

"I had to sit back here to listen! That was something so spectacular I can't even describe what I heard," the judge said.

Agreeing with him, fellow judge Luke Bryan said he hadn't seen anything like it. As for Carrie Underwood of American Idol Season 23, she was "speechless." On top of getting three yeses, Canaan also earned a platinum ticket.

After winning the current season's final platinum ticket, Canaan sang Never Would Have Made It by Marvin Sapp for his next performance. Once again, Luke Bryan showered him with appreciation as he said Canaan was "one of the best" singers he had ever seen. American Idol Season 23 judge Lionel Richie mentioned it was the "greatest" performance he had ever seen.

Upon learning that Canaan was only 17, Carrie Underwood couldn't believe it. Both Bryan and Richie mentioned that he was "Top one." Witnessing such appreciation from the judges shows what the artist possesses and how much potential he has.

Canaan James Hill's YouTube bio sheds more light on what kind of person he is and how he "loves" to encourage people to trust God:

"I am a Christian, I sing, preach, and give encouraging words. I love to encourage people to trust God because he can do more with it than we can. Fun fact about me: The Clark Sisters are my favorite artist."

Canaan's March 18, 2023, post on Instagram recalls he got his love of music from his grandfather. It was a video clip of Canaan singing alongside his "papa."

"Y'all My Papa Is Where I Get It From. And as I said he amazes me everytime the more time goes by the better he sounds y'all show some love for us," he wrote.

Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Canaan James Hill has delivered mesmerizing performances until now, which he will undoubtedly continue to do. While making waves on American Idol Season 23, he seems to have tons of potential to become a finalist and win the show. It would be an exciting journey to witness as the 17-year-old preacher advances in the competition.
