The fifth episode of Alien: Earth comes with many surprises. It was not expected that we would get a full episode dedicated to the Maginot Crew’s quest. However, a question still remains as to how the Maginot Crew managed to pull off such a massive feat with so little preparation they had.

It cannot be denied that the Maginot Crew’s fate was already sealed from the beginning, but to see how things went south with their mission definitely makes us question how they even managed to survive for so long and even capture so many species.

Confusion with Alien: Earth’s Maginot Crew's success and eventual failure

The fifth episode of Alien: Earth begins by showing us the disaster that has struck Maginot. Crew members were being attacked by the alien beings left and right, and it was a massacre indeed. Fire started in the Maginot, and the egg crates were also opened. Morrow is left with so many questions about this dire situation. The alien species that the Maginot crew previously captured during their mission was loose and creating this chaos.

However, the question that comes to our mind is how they were able to capture so many dangerous species, such as the T. Ocellus, D. Plumbicare, facehuggers, two species 19, and also an unnamed alien. Now, when disaster struck, the crew was in complete shambles and had no countermeasure to protect themselves from this desperate situation. Hence, it led to confusion about whether they were even able to catch these species for the first time.

As the episode continues, it is revealed that the size of the crew was much bigger when the mission first started. This can be understood when the cryosleep chambers are shown. This is an indication of the fact that maybe most of the crew lost their lives while they were capturing these species in the first place.

The manner in which the crew was so unprepared also denotes that the crew who captured the species were also not properly trained. This led them to lose their lives during the process. Even the survivors that we see in the episode lack the training needed to handle these situations. Maginot’s eventual failure is also because of it.

Alien: Earth depicts that the most skilled and cautious people are the ones who can survive eventually. The Maginot Crew, on the other hand, was the complete opposite of this aspect. The crew’s decisions were filled with incompetence and poor judgment, as can be seen with Chibuzo failing to seal the containment vessel and also eating in her lab.

The crew also had a blatant disregard for safety protocols, which eventually led to their fate. Yet somehow this flawed group managed to capture so many species. With their amateurish mistakes, it is truly a question that leaves the viewers thinking. Watching the Maginot crew handle the situation was like watching an amateur fumble through a game of chess. There was hardly any logical step taken.

The fifth episode of Alien: Earth gives a glimpse into the failure of the crew, fueling the confusion about their success.
