The X-Files reboot has fans anticipating the acclaimed sci-fi series. The news went public after the original creator, Chris Carter, on the live radio show in 2023, On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko, revealed that he had talked to Ryan Coogler about a reboot. With his new superhit film, Sinners, the Black Panther director has raised everyone’s hopes of getting a mindblowing reboot of The X-Files.

The way Coogler incorporated supernatural elements of vampirism and magic with storytelling so seamlessly is a testament to his skill as a director. He is the perfect choice to bring the sci-fi series back to our screens with new and modern conspiracies.

More on The X-Files reboot in our story.

Why is Ryan Coogler the right choice for The X-Files reboot after Sinners? Reasons explored

Ryan Coogler has time and again proved that he is more than capable of handling supernatural and mythological storytelling with stellar narratives like Black Panther and the more recent film, Sinners. In Sinners, through the tale of twins Smoke and Stack (Michael B. Jordan) and their brawl against Remmick and his army of Vampires, Coogler not only is successful at depicting a compelling story, but is also able to weave magical elements into it.

Just like FBI agents, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully’s camaraderie in the sci-fi series, the film also has Smoke and Stack, who fought for a common cause in their own ways. Other than the twins, it also has another dynamic similar to the iconic Mulder-Scully duo: Smoke and his wife Annie. Like Scully, one does not believe in the supernatural, while the other uses their expertise to fight evil with their knowledge of the supernatural, like Duchovny’s Mulder.

Moreover, through these superhit films, Coogler proved that he can craft captivating and gripping mythological tales. For instance, he was able to integrate the myths and legends from African and Mayan culture in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Recently, on Last Podcast on the Left, Ryan Coogler revealed how excited he is to work and bring back the popular sci-fi series. He said:

"We're going to try to make something really great, bro, and make something for the real X-Files fans and maybe find some new ones."

He further added:

"Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f**king scary."
