Star Trek: Discovery Season 6 was a dream for many viewers, but alas, the show ended with the fifth season. Created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, the sci-fi series was a part of the Star Trek franchise and featured Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, and others.
The show aired for five seasons from 2017 to 2024 and focused on the crew of the starship Discovery. The series occurred a decade before the events of the Star Trek: The Original Series in the 23rd century.
As the show ended after Season 5, the announcement was a shock for both fans and the cast and crew members as no one knew till the last moment that Paramount+ would be cancelling the show. The show was a hit with critics and viewers and according to Variety, here’s what Star Trek: Discovery Season 6 could have looked like had it happened.
What would Star Trek: Discover Season 6 have looked like?

After the show ended after season 5, executive producer and showrunner Michelle Paradise and executive producer Alex Kurtzman, got an extra three days to film a “coda” to the show, which is set 30 years after the events of the finale. The 16-minute epilogue reveals that Burnham is now an admiral and has a family with her love, Cleveland Booker. Their son Leto, is also a captain in Starfleet and he joins his mother and sends Discovery on its final mission.
In an interview with Variety, actor Sonequa Martin-Green and executive producer and showrunner Michelle Paradise, talk about filming the finale and the coda and how Star Trek: Discovery Season 6 could have been.
Paradise mentions that once everyone knew that Star Trek: Discovery Season 6 was not happening, the story of “Calypso” had to be solved and therefore, Paradise and finale co-writer Kyle Jarrow worked together to give Star Trek: Discovery Season 6 some form. The Discovery was restored to its 23rd century shape and Burnham tells Zora that they’re going into deep space but they leave her alone.
“We want to know what’s happening to Burnham, first and foremost,” Paradise says in the interview. “And we knew we wanted to see the cast again.”
Therefore, Paradise and Jarrow thought about an older Burnham, who is a captain in Discovery, and she imagines herself with her crew 30 years prior, so that the audience and Burnham could connect with each other one last time. Paradise also cut a few lines of Burnham’s dialogue with Book from the Season 5 finale and moved it to a talk she has with her son in the coda.
Martin-Green relished the opportunity to revisit the character she’s played for seven years when she’s reached the pinnacle of her life and career. “You just get to see this manifestation of legacy in this beautiful way,” she says. “I will also say that I look a lot like my mom, and that was that was also a gift, to be able to see her.”
Shooting the goodbye with the rest of her cast was emotional, unsurprisingly, but it led Martin-Green to an unexpected understanding. “It actually was so charged that it was probably easier that it was only those three days that we knew it was the end, and not the entirety of season,” she says.
Similarly, Paradise says she’s “not sure” what more she would’ve done had there been more time to shoot the coda. “I truly don’t feel like we missed out on something by not having one more day,” she says. “I feel like it ends the way it needed to end.”
Alas, Star Trek: Discovery Season 6, remains a dream for the fans of the show. While Star Trek: Discovery Season 6 did not occur, viewers can check out the previous seasons of the sci-fi fantasy series.
