ABC's High Potential Season 2 Episode 4, titled 'Behind the Music,' featured an exciting case for the LAPD, which also uncovered a cold case from 25 years ago.
Elsewhere, Morgan was suspicious about Arthur's mysterious connection with Roman and asked her boss to look into the matter. She also learns that Soto was up for the captain's position, which will automatically lead to Karadec's promotion as the lieutenant. While Morgan worried about her future at the LAPD after Karadec's departure, it was revealed that Soto had been passed for the Captain's position.
The final moments of High Potential Season 2 Episode 4 saw Morgan speaking with a strange man in the elevator, who is later revealed to be Nick Wagner, the new Captain.
Episode 4's case started with a distressed call from Raina Viera, a woman who claimed that she had seen a murder and asked for the police's help. However, when Morgan and Karadec showed up at her house, she denied making the call. Morgan recognized Raina's accent from the call but why was she lying? Is Raina in danger?
Here is the complete High Potential Season 2 Episode 4 recap.
High Potential Season 2 Episode 4 recap: Raina Viera is found dead
Turns out Morgan's deduction about Raina's accent was correct, as Karadec, Oz, and Morgan again got a call from Raina's house, informing them that she is dead. The team concludes that Raina either fell down a flight of stairs or was pushed by someone. They see three missed calls from someone named Lucy and get suspicious. Morgan and the team started asking around Raina's house and came across one of her neighbors, a drug dealer. He reveals that he supplied migraine medicine to Raina and she was probably in the basement when she made the call for help.
Morgan and team waste no time investigating Raina's basement in High Potential Season 2 Episode 4 and find an old cellphone. The evidence in the basement points to the fact that Raina was having early-onset dementia. When Morgan and Karadec find a bloodstained white dress, they speculate that Raina had witnessed a murder in the past and was confused after seeing the blood-soaked dress.
High Potential Season 2 Episode 4 recap: A haunting mystery from the past
Daphne discovers that the dress was manufactured by Cibrian Creations, which went out of business in 2015. Morgan used the dress to find out about an African-American female singer named Greta St. John, who was tragically murdered in 2000 near Black Jewel Club. This brings Daphne and Oz to Eddie, the club's manager in 2000 (when Greta was murdered). Elsewhere, Morgan and Karadec speak with Lucy (a photojournalist who struck up a friendship with Raina), who tells them that Raina was also an aspiring singer back in the day and a rival to Greta.
Morgan decides to speak with Mac Epps in High Potential Season 2 Episode 4. Mac is the current manager of Black Jewel, who was also Greta's manager back in the day. Mac is a violent man and Morgan notices a star-shaped tattoo on his hand, which links him with Greta (as seen in the photographs). Morgan deduces that Mac and Greta were having an affair and she was also pregnant with his child. She was just trying to save her baby from a violent father and Raina witnessed Greta's murder at Mac's hands.
High Potential Season 2 Episode 4: A shocking revelation
Morgan and the team knew that Mac murdered Greta but they just couldn't prove this. When Mac fears that the LAPD could arrest him any moment, he holds a woman hostage at his own club, and Karadec fatally shoots him in the chaos. With Mac dead, they had no way to know if he also killed Raina. However, a prison visit pass found in Mac's car becomes his alibi and it is proved that he did not kill Raina.
With time running out on Raina's case, Morgan and Karadec worked fast to unmask her killer in High Potential Season 2 Episode 4. They speculated that Greta's child could likely be out for Raina's blood since she was a key witness who did not stop the horrific crime. A second look at Lucy's photos makes Morgan realize that the time-stamp (her alibi) on her photos has been tampered with. This brings them to Lucy, who confessed that she is Greta's daughter and was trying to learn about her mother's death when Raina accidentally fell over the stairs. While Lucy did not want to kill her, Raina ended up dead anyway. Karadec announces that Lucy will go to jail.
