The premiere of High Potential Season 2 is just a few days away. The new season is all set to premiere on September 16, 2025. The crime drama broke viewership records and became the most-watched new series on ABC when it debuted in September 2024.
The story of Morgan Gillory, played by Kaitlin Olson, resonated with the audience as she used her out-of-the-box thinking to solve high-stakes cases for the LAPD. The first season ended with two major cliffhangers, which have left the audience waiting for new episodes.
Showrunner Todd Harthan has now revealed that High Potential Season 2 will begin with a bang as the show will directly address the cliffhanger ending of the previous season. Harthan said in a recent interview with TV Insider:
“We’re doing a pretty exciting launch for our premiere. We had a couple of major story threads that were building throughout the season. The last thing I was going to do was give you a double cliffhanger and not deliver on the promise of [them].”
Todd Harthan teases what to expect from High Potential Season 2
During the interview, Todd Harthan revealed that High Potential Season 2 is going to build momentum right from the first episode and will take the audience on a wildly emotional journey. He said:
“The episodes that are coming right out of the gate are going to hopefully take the audience on a really wild, emotional, and at times creepy ride that hopefully checks all the boxes.”
At the end of the first season, Morgan Gillory had to solve the case of a kidnapper who was hitting way too close to her home. While the kidnapper still remained at large, Detective Karadec told Morgan that he knew the whereabouts of her first husband, Roman, who had disappeared 15 years ago. These plots will now likely be addressed in the upcoming season's premiere.
We might also get to see a love triangle in High Potential Season 2 as Morgan could be enchanted by the arrival of a new captain, Nick Wagner, played by Steve Howey. Meanwhile, she already has Karadec, played by Daniel Sunjata, as a potential suitor. Talking about the changing relationship dynamics in the second season, Harthan said:
“When you’ve got Daniel Sunjata and Steve Howey standing in the same space, and then you drop Kaitlin Olson in between them, chemistry starts to take off and you go, ‘Well, we’re probably going to write to that.’ I certainly am putting that firmly on the table.”
Talking about Wagner’s character, the showrunner revealed he is a person going through internal struggles, and he is set to be intrigued by Morgan’s skills and talent:
“He’s a weird, enigmatic character with lots of sort of hidden demons of his own. And his point of view on Morgan is unusual. He doesn’t come in and go, ‘What’s this strange creature that isn’t wearing a badge and carrying a gun?’ He’s intrigued by her more than he is judgmental of her.”
High Potential Season 2 will also star Javicia Leslie as Daphne Forrester, Amirah J as Ava Gillory, Judy Reyes as Selena Soto, Matthew Lamb as Elliot Radovic, and Deniz Akdeniz as Lev "Oz" Özdil.
High Potential Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on ABC on September 16, 2025, and will release new episodes weekly.
