Hillary Duff is set to return to Hulu with a brand-new comedy series titled Pretty Ugly. The show is set to focus on Duff's Miranda Miller, her daughter, on whom she has pinned all of her pageant queen dreams, and her all-in-all quite ugly family dynamics.

The show is based on a 2015 novel by Kirker Butler of the same name, and Duff, along with leading the series, is also joining as an executive producer.

Here's everything you need to know about the brand-new upcoming addition to the Hulu montage.

Hillary Duff set to play a pageant mom in upcoming Hulu drama, Pretty Ugly

Pretty Ugly follows Hillary Duff's Miranda Miller, a pageant mom whose one and only goal in life is to turn her daughter Bailey into the most successful child pageant contestant in the entire country. Her dream, however, comes at the cost of her daughter Bailey's childhood and her sanity.

Bailey is not a kid who spends her time playing with her friends or worrying about boys her age. She spends all her time doing pageants with her mom. Something she has been doing since she was only three years old. Now, though, she's burnt out and wants nothing at all to do with pageantry.

While Bailey's mother, Miranda, is dreaming about making Bailey a pageant queen, about brand deals, endorsements, beauty brands, and maybe even going as far as a TV show, Bailey is dreaming about having nothing to do with pageantry. Her mother is so far removed from her daughter's feelings that, seven months pregnant, she's already dreaming about making her unborn daughter follow her and her elder daughter Bailey's steps into a pageant queen.

Pretty Ugly follows the mother-daughter dynamic, while the father is a pill-popping nurse who ends up impregnating an 18-year-old girl. The girl is the granddaughter of one of the elderly patients that Ray is supposed to be caring for.

To wrap up the ugly dynamics of this family in Pretty Ugly, Miranda's mother, Joan, is a widowed shut-in who is busy plotting a murder with Jesus. The official logline of Pretty Ugly reads:

"A former teenage pageant queen herself, Miranda dreams of endorsement deals, beauty brands, maybe even a TV show. Bailey, however, wants none of it. She’s been doing pageants since she was three months old and is burned out. But Miranda can’t imagine slowing down. In fact, she’s seven months pregnant and already mapping out her unborn daughter’s future pageant career."

The logline goes on to read

"While Miranda is busy building her empire, her husband Ray, a nurse with a hobby of taking random pills, has knocked up the eighteen-year-old granddaughter of one of his hospice patients; and her mother Joan, a widowed shut-in, is plotting a murder with Jesus. It’s all pretty ugly."

Pretty Ugly is set to be written by Kirker Butler, the novelist of the book that the show is based on, and it will be directed by Silver Tree. Along with Hillary Duff, Kirker Butler and Silver Tree are joining as executive producers with Aaron Kaplan for Kapital Entertainment. Kapital Entertainment and 20th Television are co-studios for the project.
