Wednesday Season 2 turns up the volume on family drama, weaving it seamlessly into the show’s supernatural backdrop. Compared to the first season, the creators have raised the stakes, delivering deeper emotions and sharper conflicts. One of the most compelling elements this time around is the evolving dynamic between Wednesday and Morticia.
In Season 1, their relationship stood out for its intriguing balance, distant on the surface, yet underpinned by a quiet, undeniable protectiveness. Season 2 builds on that foundation, peeling back more layers to reveal Morticia’s fiercely protective and deeply maternal side, adding both warmth and tension to the storyline.
Catherine Zeta-Jones opens up about Morticia and Wednesday’s mother-daughter dynamics in Season 2
Morticia Addams, played by the talented Catherine Zeta-Jones in the second season of the series, brings out her distinct protective nature. She wants to stay closer to her daughter to protect her and nurture her. After her daughter’s powers begin to create problems, she understands that her situation is much like that of her sister.

Morticia understands how her mother treated her daughter and then abandoned her completely. However, Morticia does not want to do that. She wants to help her daughter as much as possible. In an interview with PEOPLE, Zeta-Jones talks about how she does want to be like her mother,
“What I portray to my mother [as Morticia], the contentious relationship sometimes is exactly what I do not want to have with my own daughter [Wednesday]. And history does repeat itself. My mother, Hester Frump, has a little bit more of a mean bone in her body than Morticia and Morticia is always family first as [her] mother wasn’t.”
In the second season, we see her constantly trying her best to be closer to her daughter. This also creates a difficult situation for her daughter. Her daughter wants the freedom. She wants the distance to grow away from her mother. She understands her mother’s wish to protect her.
Yet it also prevents her from being her true self. She wants to use Goody’s book to help her with her powers. However, Morticia prevents her from doing it. After the arrival of Hester Frump, things begin to get even more complicated. We slowly understand why Morticia desires to protect her daughter even more. Hester is quite different from Morticia.

Morticia was horrified by how her mother treated Ophelia. Her desire to protect her daughter from the mistakes of the past is a reflection of her relationship with her mother. She does not want her daughter to go through the same situation that she and her sister did.
Catherine Zeta-Jones brings out the poise and elegance of Morticia with perfection. Moticia’s vulnerability and protectiveness resonate with the viewers. It is proof of her immense love for her children and family. She wants to break the cycle that her mother put her through.
She wants her family to grow on love and unconditional support. Season 2, part 1, is available for streaming on Netflix. The second part of the second season will be released on September 3. It will also have four episodes in total, like the first part of the second season.
