The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 has finally come out, and the stakes are higher than ever as a full-blown battle for Manhattan unfolds. At the center of the war is a rare and vital resource—methane gas produced from rotting zombie corpses.

The survivors will now struggle over this resource as everyone wants it. The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 begins about a year after the events of Season 1. The show's main character, Maggie, has now found a space in an enclave called Bricks, but her faction is compelled to work with the dominant New Babylon Federation.

At the same time, her enemy, Negan, is also gearing up for more chaos and tensions, and fans might also be curious about their rivalry. Interestingly, the cast of the show was asked about the season finale in an interview with Collider, in which they were asked to shed light on Negan's fate.

The interviewer asked if Maggie would end up putting a bullet in Negan's head, to which Lauren Cohen, the actress who brought Maggie to life, said:

"It ends when it ends... I hope not."

The actress didn't want to spoil it for fans, so she didn't reveal if Negan would meet his end with a bullet or fall to his death. Even Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the actor who stepped into the role of Negan, said he's "curious" to learn what happens in the end.

Since the beginning of The Walking Dead: Dead City, Negan has proven to be one of the most villainous survivors. However, in Season 2, he's being controlled by a powerful woman named The Dama and her violent partner, The Croat.

They’ve forced him into a leadership role—not because he wants it, but because they’re using him like a tool to bring together all the violent gangs in Manhattan. Why? Because they want to prepare for a possible attack from New Babylon.

Negan's current position hints at a tragic fate in the season finale, but who knows if he comes up with a more sinister plan. As mentioned above, the cast was asked if Negan would die from a bullet to his head, but the actors didn't reveal what might happen to him.

Writer Eli Jorne was also present during the interview and mentioned that he knows where he wants to see the characters in The Walking Dead: Dead City if the show continues for more seasons. However, AMC hasn't officially shared any update about a renewal.

The synopsis for Season 2 reads:

"In the growing war for control of New York City, Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped on opposite sides. As their paths intertwine, they come to see that the way out for both is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined."

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 arrived on May 4, 2025, and will conclude on June 22. Fans should set their alarms for today, as Episode 2 is arriving at 9 pm ET on AMC.
