"Hopefully we get a chance": Ballard co-creator Michael Connelly hopeful of Bosch spin-off getting a second season

Ballard, the latest Bosch spinoff procedural series on Prime Video, will premier on the streaming platform on July 9th, 2025. The show follows the story of Detective Renée Ballard (played by Maggie Q), who heads the newly formed cold case division of the LAPD. Season 1 of the series will have 10 episodes. Co-creator Michael Connelly hopes for a second season soon.

While speaking to ScreenRant, Connelly said:

“We don't have a green light yet, we're going to see how the show does. We are very confident that the show is going to do well, because if you've seen it, you know that it's going to appeal to people. So, hopefully we'll get a second season, and then we'll be off.”

He further added:

“I think what happened with Bosch is pretty rare, and I can still remember on the first day of filming Bosch, I did an interview for Instagram or something, where I asked Titus if he could stick around for five seasons. And he said, "Yeah," but we got twice that, so we'll see what happens. I think the show does have legs. There are a lot of stories we can tell with Renée and with Maggie, so hopefully we get a chance to do that.”

Ballard is based on the bestselling book series by author Michael Connelly. He also created the show along with Michael Alaimo.

Ballard is a spinoff of Bosch: Legacy. The series revolved around Detective Renée Ballard, who is taking on age-old homicide cases under the new division of LAPD. Ballad was introduced in the finale of Bosch: Legacy. In the finale, she approaches Harry Bosch (played by Titus Welliver) about a cold case she was working on.

Bosch: Legacy has an impressive critics rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience rating of 86%.

In the new series, the underfunded Los Angeles Police Department division will unveil several decade old secrets, conspiracies and challenges that Detective Ballard will be forced to confront. She will seek help from retired detective Bosch and her volunteer team to uncover the truth.

Season 1 of Ballard is exclusively available on Prime Video.
