HBO's highly anticipated fantasy show, House of the Dragon Season 3, recently got a huge update. The fantasy show is the spinoff series of GOT and narrates the story of events from George R.R. Martin’s novel, Fire & Blood, that took place almost two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones.
In a recent interview, Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower in the fantasy drama, revealed a crucial update about the upcoming season. She revealed that the first two episodes of House of the Dragon Season 3 were actually supposed to be the finale of the previous season during a Collider interview.
She said:
"The first two eps were essentially supposed to be our finale last year."
More on this in our story.
House of the Dragon Season 3: Olivia Cooke teases important update
While talking to Collider, Cooke teased that Season 3’s start will be a blast, as the first two episodes will actually be the finale of Season 2. Since the episodes were supposed to be the final two episodes of the previous season, they are surely packed with intense action and adrenaline-fueled drive, making the premiere of House of the Dragon Season 3 filled with energy that premiere episodes usually might not depict.
To add to her previous comment, she said:
"I think I can say for the show that it is, you know, it starts off with a bang. So you can just imagine coming into that sort of energy. It’s bigger and more ferocious than ever before, I think is what I can say."
Cooke’s comment aligns with showrunner Ryan Condal’s comment on how big the show has grown out to be in the podcast, The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of.
He said:
"The season is just Godd**n huge. Every day I walk around there and look at the things that we're building and the things that we're doing and the number of costumes and extras and all that...I knew it was bigger than season 2, but I don't think I realized quite how much."
Season 2 ended just before the epic battle of the Gullet began between Rhaenyra’s forces and the Greens.
What happened at the end of House of the Dragon Season 2?
At the end of Season 2, it looked like Rhaenyra had finally given up and wanted to avoid the brewing war that would destroy everything and secretly met with Rhaenyra, promising to give her the throne. However, her realization came too late, and Rhaenyra might not want to compromise.
Not just Rhaneyra, Daemon’s army was ready to march to the South while Aemond flew to Harrenhal; the peace might not be in their cards right now, as the war is inevitable.
While talking to Gold Derby, showrunner Condal revealed that House of the Dragon Season 3 will bring four major events from the book to the screen. He said:
"Season 3 is huger, in many ways. There are, by my quick count on stage, four major events from the book that we get to adapt and realize in three dimensions in this season."
Therefore, the upcoming Season of HBO’s fantasy drama might be all kinds of epic that the fans are waiting for.
