House of Guinness is known for its story and its characters. Among all the characters of the show, Arthur Guinness is perhaps the most unapologetic one. Other than his entertaining presence on screen, another reason why he is so talked-about is that the character was part of a full frontal nude scene in Episode 3.

Anthony Boyle, who plays Arthur Guinness in House of Guinness, has recently revealed a behind-the-scenes secret of his nude scene in the show.

House of Guinness follows the affluent Guinness family behind the Guinness brewing company. The show is set in Ireland and New York, in the 19th century, after the death of Benjamin Guinness. We see how Ireland, the Guinness brewing company and the Guinness family deal with the death of the man who was largely responsible for the success of the brewing company. In focus are his four children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Benjamin, who now have to follow their father's will.

In House of Guinness, Episode 3, we see Arthur and Lady Olivia Hedges agree to a lavender marriage with each other since Arthur needs a wife who understands and accepts his homosexuality, and Olivia needs someone to secure her family's affluence. A little later in the episode, we see Arthur in a full-frontal nude scene as he gets out of his bath and is dressed by his butler, with whom he shares the news of his upcoming wedding. Viewers were quite surprised to see Boyle agree to a nude scene and the actor has recently revealed how it all happened.

While a lot of actors are understandably reluctant to go full frontal on camera, Anthony Boyle was not. The nude scene was initially supposed to go a little differently, but then Boyle had another idea, which eventually became the scene we saw in House of Guinness. As Anthony Boyle told Variety in an interview about the scene,

''... it was a very last minute sort of thing. I called the director the night before and said, I think we should do the scene with me coming out of the bath [instead of a dressing scene]. He said, “Yeah, f*ck it. Let’s do it.”''

When asked if he had any doubts about it after the director gave the green light, Boyle said,

''Not really. I thought it was good for the character because I wanted to show him feeling like he owns the world, and he was completely unashamed of himself and his sexuality and that he doesn’t even view the servants as people, that they’re just there to serve him. He’s completely dominant.''

While he personally had no issues with the full frontal nude scene, he was a little concerned about how his grandmother might react to it. Parents and grandparents are usually never prepared to see their child/grandchild in such bold scenes. But then it turns out, Boyle had nothing to worry about, since, as he told Variety,

“She doesn’t know how to work Netflix because she doesn’t have the internet. She just watches ‘Coronation Street’ and other British soaps.''

He continued,

“She keeps saying to me, ‘Stop doing shows that are only on the internet. Could you get on “Coronation Street” or “East Enders?”’

Thus, Boyle's grandmother never watched the scene, and likely never will, which is a relief to him.

House of Guinness is streaming on Netflix.
