House of Guinness star Jack Gleeson puts an end to all rumours of quitting acting after Game of Thrones

Do you remember how everybody believed that Jack Gleeson had vanished after Game of Thrones? The actor who portrayed the infamously vicious King Joffrey in GOT, took a break from TV, but not because the role frightened him or he disliked it. Gleeson cleared things up at the premiere of Netflix’s House of Guinness.

He said that he had never abandoned acting. Rather, he desired something different. Gleeson spent some quiet years in Dublin, working on little theatre projects with friends. It was not about avoiding fame or fan backlash, it was just about relishing in the artistic fire of stage performance and spending some time out of the limelight.

Now he is on television, with House of Guinness serving as a comeback for Gleeson. It is also evidence that Gleeson never stopped loving acting, he just preferred to do it his way.

A lot of fans thought Jack Gleeson dropped out of acting because people hated his Game of Thrones character, Joffrey, so much that he couldn’t cope with the hate. Gleeson dismissed the rumours calmly and sincerely at the House of Guinness premiere.

“Well, I can say, thankfully it wasn't because I received any sort of abuse from anybody. Thankfully! I know that can happen, sadly. People confuse the character with the actor but after Game of Thrones or even during the show I was continuing to act but it was more of just a theatre company that I set up with some friends in Dublin and I was more into that at that time.”

He stated that it was not the threat or abuse online that made him pull away. He just decided to get into theatre with his friends in Dublin after Game of Thrones. He was interested in doing small-scale creative work rather than pursuing large TV or movie parts.

Gleeson also shared that he soon missed being in front of the camera. That is why he decided to get back to screen acting once again. His hiatus was not an attempt to flee from fame; it was a wise move to pursue what he was interested in and come back when the time felt right.

House of Guinness is a new era for Gleeson

Jack Gleeson’s return to the screen is not some kind of guest appearance. He stars in Netflix’s House of Guinness as Byron Hedges, a character with a rich history and family drama. Developed by Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight, House of Guinness switches between 19th-century Dublin and New York, and tells the story of the powerful Guinness family.

Critics have already hailed Gleeson’s performance as one of the highlights of an excellent cast. The importance of his role in House of Guinness is that it allows him to remind viewers of what made him so memorable, while also allowing him to reveal more aspects of his talent other than that of the well-known villain that he previously portrayed in Game of Thrones.
