House Of David cast and character guide: Who plays whom in Prime Video's upcoming historical drama?

Amazon Prime Video's new historical drama series, House of David, debuted on February 27, 2025, with its first three episodes.

The story follows the journey of an outcast and Israelite shepherd, David, as he defeats the demigod Goliath and becomes the King of ancient Israel and Judah. The eight-episode shows an epic battle between David and Goliath, which led to the titular character becoming the King of Israel.

1) Martyn Ford as Goliath

The larger-than-life demigod with a hulking presence, Goliath, is on the ruthless path to avenge his mother's death, which forces him into battle with David. He aims to end the ongoing war aginst Israel with a single combat with its greatest warrior, which ends tragically for him, despite the fact that he is a man with fierce warrior skills and commitment to his family. Martyn Ford, who is also a bodybuilder, has previously played Goliath in the TV series, Of Kings and Prophets. He has also acted in The Sandman, The Nevers, and Those About To Die.

2) Michael Iskander as David

House of David marks Michael Iskander's acting debut, and he plays the titular biblical character of David. In an interview with RadioTimes, creator Jon Erwin described the process of David's casting:

"We conducted a global search, considering thousands of submissions, in search of an actor who could embody not just a warrior, but a poet, a lover, a king in the making.''

Based on the real biblical figure, David is an ordinary Israelite, shepherd, musician, and poet, who is rendered an outcast by his family and goes on to chart a path of bravery. To prove himself, he engages in a single combat to kill Goliath and eventually becomes the King of Israel, according to the Old Testament.

3) Ali Suliman as King Saul

Chosen by God's Prophet and High Priest Samuel, Saul is the king of ancient Israel, who takes on a dark path and ends up cursed by Samuel. Following his greed, he disobeys Samuel and takes over the Amalekites' land for his personal endeavors. This act leads to the eventual downfall of his dynasty and rule. He is also plagued by sinister visions that blur the lines between reality and dream. Suliman has previously appeared in Arthur The King, Prime Target and Jack Ryan.

4) Stephen Lang as Samuel

The mystical Chosen One, Samuel, is the harbinger of God's word for Ancient Isreal, a person who sees all. He follows God's order and crowns Saul as Israel's King.

However, after Saul goes on a dark path and disobeys God's word, Samuel curses him with sinister visions, eventually leading to the latter's downfall.

Lang has previously acted in Don't Breathe, Into the Badlands and Crime Story.
