The HBO series House of the Dragon Season 2 finale is fast approaching, and fans cannot wait to explore what's coming on the way. Well, if you do not enjoy spoilers, then make sure to stop here, or else delve deep into the article to learn what can be expected from the battle between the Greens and the Blacks.

The Dance of Dragons begins as the Greens, led by Aemond and the Hightowers, and Team Black, under Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, are thrust into ripping each other apart and claiming the Iron Throne.

However, as we know in George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood, victory comes with no ease, and neither does in House of the Dragon. Fans and viewers will see bloodshed, action-packed dragon battles, and the most unexpected deaths in the finale of season 2.

1) Heroic dragon battles

In the House of the Dragon season 2 finale, you will see aerial combat between the creatures including the most dangerous and ruthless Vhagar, Caraxes, and possibly Tessarion.

Reflecting on episode six of the ongoing season, there's also a possibility that Rhaena Targaryen who discovered the wild dragon eating sheep and burning them up might actually claim Sheepstealer if he bonds with her and is introduced in the series' finale.

2) The Battle of the Gullet

Another notable moment in season 2's finale might be the Battle of the Gullet, as described in Fire & Blood, it's a crucial target for both, the Greens and the Blacks, as Gullet serves as the gateway for supplies and all essential reinforcement during the civil war. All major players from both teams will be involved in bloodshed during this epic fight.

3) Arrival of Prince Daeron and his Dragon Tessarion

Now that fans have heard the mention of Prince Daeron, who's ironically known as Daeron the Daring in Martin's book, he might finally appear in the battle between his family members. Prince Daeron was sent away from his family at an early age to develop his fighting skills and learn the way of life.

According to the book, he appears during the Dance of Dragons, and now we are wondering if the HBO series is set to introduce Daeron Targaryen in the story after he was mentioned twice during the previous episodes.

4) Aemond's rage and strategy to eliminate rivals

Aemond Targaryen's aggression and strategic move to dethrone his half-sister Rhaenyra will result in commanding Vhagar to get ready to destroy the key positions of team Black. Since the Greens have the largest and one of the most highly skilled dragons Vhagar, Aemond will make sure to use his companion with the best possible strategies from the beginning of the civil war.

Aemond Targaryen has been planning and fighting with his family members for a long time just to solidify his status in the Targaryen House. His main aim is to completely dominate Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and her strong army. And this time he will use Vhagar's powers to eliminate his rivals.

5) Daemon Targaryen's possible departure from Harrenhal

Daemon Targaryen is Queen Rhaenyra's second husband and one of the most ruthless players among the blacks. During the final battle, Daemon will be seen positioned at Team Black's prominent castle Harrenhal, to avoid massive destruction from their rivals.

However, if Daemon is required to lead an army and departs from the castle in the middle of the fight, fans will likely see a drastic change in power dynamics during the Dance of Dragons. His possible departure might contribute to giving Team Green a notable chance to destroy one of their key locations.

6) Political shift in King's Landing

As we know, the Iron Throne is located in King's Landing, and the Greens and Blacks are trying hard to reach their goal. Meanwhile, King Aegon is too unstable to rule the kingdom, which will ultimately provide Aemond with a significant chance to take control of his brother's kingdom.

There are possibilities that Alicent and Otto will be discarded from the court, leading to major conflicts and schemes to take control when the King is stuck in his bed.

7) Queen Rhaenyra's plan to claim victory

While Aemond and his team are planning to dominate Rhaenyra and her army, the Queen is set with her strategic plan to leverage more dragons in the battle. This way Team Black will be able to claim victory with higher chances, as they plan to attack the Greens with more dragons and even Dragonseeds.

Actress Emma D'Arcy who plays Rhaenyra Targaryen opened up about her character in a conversation with TheWrap and said:

"Her blood is up and I think for the first time … she thinks she can [win]. One of the few things she’s felt clear about is not entering into a war that [she’s] obviously going to lose, that [it] being a completely pointless exercise. And for the first time, she has what she feels to be an ultimate deterrent."

And since it's the Dance of Dragons, the creatures will undeniably play equally important roles during the Civil War.

8) Involvement of the Stark and Lannister Families

While the war is majorly between the members of House Targaryen, the finale might change this a bit, by involving the Starks from the North and Lannisters from the West of the country. Their armies are seen moving, which hints that the battle for the Iron Throne is not limited to only one location.

House of the Dragon Season 2 finale will air on HBO and Max on August 4, 2024, at 9 p.m. ET.

Stay tuned for regular entertainment!
