CBS Studios and Paramount TV Studios are splitting up projects post the Paramount-Skydance merger, which closed on August 7, 2025. Paramount Global closed a merger with Skydance Media at $8 billion. Following the deal, Paramount’s two major studios aimed to co-exist by dividing most of the interrelating series, both existing and those currently in development.

CBS Studios will focus on producing series on the broadcast network, including the NCIS franchise, Matlock, Watson, Ghosts, and the Fire Country franchise, while also supporting the streaming of these shows on Paramount+ and other select platforms. Paramount TV Studio, which now has Skydance Television and Showtime, and MTV Entertainment Studios, will continue to concentrate on streaming series.

How are CBS Studios and Paramount TV Studios shaping up post Skydance deal?

After the Skydance-Paramount merger, CBS Studios is being headed by David Stapf and supervised by Paramount’s George Cheeks; meanwhile, the recently created Paramount TV Studios will be helmed by Skydance TV’s Matt Thunell and managed by Dana Goldberg of Paramount. However, following the finalization of the Skydance deal, there was uncertainty around the various series on the platforms.

CBS Studios and Skydance TV have co-produced Prime Video’s Reacher, its spinoff series Neagley, which is currently in development, and Cross over the last year. While Reacher has been renewed for Season 4, Cross will also be coming back with Season 2. These will now come under the new Paramount TV Studios, along with other series, including Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studio’s Dexter: Resurrection, Apple TV+’s Foundation, and all the series from the Taylor Sheridan universe.

Paramount TV Studios will focus on streaming, occasionally producing shows like CBS’s Y: The Last Man and The Road.

However, the two series that were developed under the previously-defunct Paramount TV Studios, which shut down a year ago, ie. Murderbot on Apple TV+ and Little House on the Prairie on Netflix will continue to be part of CBS Studios, and so will the Star Trek projects.

Even though Clueless is a Paramount movie title, CBS Studios will be taking on its small-screen sequel series that is in development at Peacock. The Studio will also be part of other international projects such as BBC’s King & Conqueror and Binge/Paramount+’s Colin From Accounts.
