Dexter: Resurrection introduced a new chapter in the life of a cold-blooded serial killer, who continues to fight his murderous urges even miles away from where he was based. It follows the events shortly after the events of Dexter: New Blood.

Yet, unlike what New Blood's ending may have hinted at, Dexter is alive and in New York, looking for his son, Harrison. Once again, we see him trying to fight his urges while trying to lead a regular life, farther from his bleak, criminal past, which isn't the easiest thing for him.

Dexter has often been about the killer's moral dilemma since he targets his victims because they have seemingly slipped away from the legal consequences. He has a way to justify his actions. Yet, the show has portrayed him more as an anti-hero than a villain, and Dexter: Resurrection follows a similar tradition with his character arc.

Backed by Paramount+ with Showtime, the sequel series follows the serial killer trying to mend his relationship with his son, while still suffering from hallucinations and trying to stay away from the demands of his alter ego. It shows him trying to run away from his past, only to see it catching up with him in some shape or form. By the end of its first season, we learn the potential fates of Dexter, Harrison, Leon Prater, and Charley.

Let's see what exactly happens to these major players in the new story before the show's second season arrives on the streamer.

The last time we met Dexter, it felt like he had reached the end of the rope, but he survived a fatal attack to be in New York. In the hospital, Angel Batista arrives to ask him whether he is the Bay Harbour Butcher. By the end, Batista dies, while Dexter gets kidnapped by uber-rich Leon Prater with Batista's dead body.

However, the show ends with him escaping the vault and reuniting with his son, Harrison, as he wanted. It marks a bittersweet ending to his arc for the time being, since he tries to balance the force of his urges with his desire to lead a "normal" life.

Harrison Morgan (Jack Alcott)

Harrison becomes the latest person in the family to be a victim of Dexter's source of affliction, which compels him to take someone's life. Dexter deduces Harrison's involvement in this crime while trying to build a stronger father-son relationship. By the end, it is Harrison who steps in to help Dexter escape the vault, only to be captured by Prater. The show ends with both the Morgans fleeing the crime scene.

Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage)

Leon Prater, a serial killer enthusiast, hopes to torture Dexter, presumably for his sadistic pleasure. By the end of the first season of Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter kills Prater with a lethal drug and dumps his body into New York Harbour, while also implicating this wealthy man in the eyes of the NYPD. It puts a tragic end to Prater's life.

Charley (Uma Thurman)

Uma Thurman was initially revealed as Prater's right-hand person, doing what was needed to maintain his status. By the end, she calls it quits with Prater, likely due to a breach of trust on his part, while leaving New York with her mother. It will be interesting to see whether she returns to Dexter's life anyhow in the future.
