The Smiling Friends universe has always been weird. But not this weird. Out of nowhere an OC named Dolly Dimpley has exploded across YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), and Reddit. And yes, fans are shipping her with The Cool Autistic Gamer 774, because of course. Also, for the unversed, the latter is a YouTube channel that posts clips from Smiling Friends, created by Ari Weamer.Let's unpack how Dolly went from a YouTube isider joke to a full-blown fandom phenomenon in under a month, shall we?How did Dolly Dimpley become a part of Smiling Friends? It began on October 5th, 2025, when a relatively unknown YouTube creator named Critter Clipz 2002 uploaded a video titled "Smiling Friends – Mr. Frog Pulls Pim's Hair." Now, this video was a remix of a Smiling Friends Season 3 clip. But the difference was that it featured a newcomer: Dolly Dimpley. She resembled Hatsune Miku in that she was seen with long, light-blue hair. Dolly was a Black woman who wears green shorts, a yellow beanie with the show's logo, and her purple-and-black crop jacket. The video had gotten up to about 56,000 views in a few weeks. But by mid-October, Critter Clipz added Dolly into more scenes like "Mole Man" and "Salty Is Murdered." Each upload gained tens of thousands of views, but then an X user @HengusM reposted one of the clips on October 21st, writing:"I found this YouTube channel (...) that edits Smiling Friends scenes with their OC in them. This is either an in-joke amongst the crew or someone's OC. Regardless, TheCoolAutisticGamer's influence is spreading"That one post got 11.4 million views in five days! How did the Dolly Dimpley memes originate?Once the tweet went viral, the internet ran with it. People drawing fan art, joking that Dolly was "SMG4's cousin", and even shipped her with The Cool Autistic Gamer 774. The latter was also a viral meme-born self-insert.RELATED: Smiling Friends characters that make the series worth itOn October 22nd, X user @RabbitRadicals dropped a drawing captioned, "I think she's a little cute," racking up thousands of likes. That same day, Redditor u/DingyDingoDog posted a "Dolly Dimpley Appreciation Thread" on r/SmilingFriends, calling her design "quirky but perfect."By October 24th, user @SleakJ3 tweeted fan art of Dolly hugging Cool Autistic Gamer 774 with the caption: "Guys, what do you think of my new ship?" and the internet said, "Yes." Suddenly, Dolly was canon...in a way.Dolly fits into the show's DNA. The creators, Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack, built the animated series around surreal humor, sincerity, and characters who feel slightly "off." Dolly Dimpley, while being fan-made, had that same charm. Her creator, Critter Clipz 2002, made her in a way that she is self-aware, silly, and VERY remixable. Dolly is evolving faster than we can catalog her. Though nobody knows if Adult Swim will actually pick up on it, but we won't be surprised if Dolly walks into Season 4 like she was there all along!
