High Potential premiered back in September 2024. This crime drama is headed by Kaitlin Olson, playing the role of a single mother who works with the LAPD to solve crimes, quickly gained popularity among the viewers. Based on the French series HPI, the show recently concluded its first season with 13 episodes.
While Olson’s Morgan is the key character in the show, she works alongside Detective Karadec, played by Daniel Sunjata. At the beginning of the show, the two had started off on a rather hostile note, owing mainly because of the substantial background differences.
Karadec was initially quite skeptical of Morgan’s skills since she previously worked as a janitor, and her unorthodox methods of crime-solving and lack of regard for the rule book made it further difficult for Karadec to accept her.
However, as the show progressed, the two gradually formed a better dynamic, and High Potential Season 1 Episode 12, titled Partners, brought out the real essence of their partnership that developed throughout the season.
With the finale hinting at some romantic chemistry between Morgan and Karadec, let us now explore how High Potential Season 1 slow-cooked the dynamic between these characters.
The following article contains spoilers.
High Potential Season 1 finale hinted at Morgan and Karadec’s relationship beyond work
When Karadec denied his old partner Ronnie’s offer to move to the FBI so that they could work together again, as he believed he already had found a partner in Morgan, the duo's professional relationship was sealed.
Morgan and Karadec were seen to get over their professional differences over the episodes in High Potential Season 1, and as Morgan started following the rules more, Karadec also started to be more approving of her out-of-the-box methods to solve crimes. This ensured a strong professional partnership that smoothly cracked one case after another.
However, it was not just professional camaraderie between Morgan and Karadec that was growing stronger with each passing episode as there was clear chemistry between the two that went beyond a platonic relationship.
The High Potential season 1 finale finally addressed it in a subtle way as Karadec was visibly stunned to see a pink gown wearing Morgan at the gala.
Later, when they were dancing, Karadec mentioned to Morgan that he is simply involved with Roman’s case because he knows Morgan cares about it, showing how he has personal concerns about her, which go way beyond what they share professionally.
Moreover, when Morgan goes to dance with Tom, Karadec lets her go, but only with the expression of a smitten person who is longing for their lover.
With this new development, which mostly seems to affect Karadec, along with the possibility of Roman returning after 15 years, it will be interesting to see how this storyline develops in the next season.
More about High Potential
Given the success that High Potential Season 1 has had, it is no surprise that the ABC drama has been renewed for another season. While talking about season 2, in an interview with TV Guide, Todd Harthan, showrunner and executive producer, mentioned:
“But, man, I will tell you this: Now that we have some time to really sit down and really put the thought and attention into the serialized threads, I think the Roman story is going to bloom in Season 2. In this little villain story, there's some twists and turns coming.”
This means the next season will also be filled with intense villain stories, and with the possibility of Roman’s character being explored further.
