House of Guinness, the historical drama series, which was recently released on Netflix on September 25, 2025, feels like the successor to Peaky Blinders. The series, through its right episodes, is a dramatised version of the rise of the Guinness family, one of the wealthiest families in 19th-century Ireland and New York.
The show begins after the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness, whose leadership transformed St. James’s Gate Brewery into the iconic brand it remains today. His four children inherit not just his empire, but also rivalries, ambition, and secrets. The show is written by Steven Knight, who also wrote Peaky Blinders, leading many to believe this series could perfectly fill the gap left by the Shelby family.
House of Guinness and how it is similar to Peaky Blinders
Peaky Blinders ran from 2013 to 2022, for six seasons. The drama was set in Birmingham in the years following the First World War and focused on the Shelby family’s control of the criminal underworld. Peaky Blinders was loosely inspired by a real gang of the same name, and the show portrayed the crime, politics, and struggles of the family and their business.
Steven Knight’s writing was key behind Peaky Blinders’ success. He created a story that had violence, loyalty, ambition, and tragedy. Since the show ended in 2022, it has been missed by fans worldwide. Viewers would love to see another family dealing with politics, drama, and business rivalries the way the Shelbys did. House of Guinness might just be the next show for them to watch.
Instead of gang wars in Birmingham, this series steps into the power games of Ireland’s most famous brewing family. With Benjamin Guinness dead, his heirs, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben, are left to fight for influence while guarding their own dark secrets. Thus, the show is an amalgamation of family drama, schemes, and power struggles, much like the Peaky Blinders.
Steven Knight himself has acknowledged the likeness between the two shows. In an interview with the BBC, he said:
"Sometimes parallels are pointed out that I don't even have a clue about,"
Knight added:
"But there are a lot of similarities - the family, it has the same energy, humour and swagger."
These are the same aspects that fans loved about Peaky Blinders and House of Guiness seems like the perfect successor to carry on the same essence. Both series focus on families who command power, whether through crime or commerce, and are based on real events, told through a fictional lens. Moreover, both have similar energy, tone that set them apart from other conventional period dramas.
House of Guinness debuted with an 80% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and at the time of writing this article, it has a score of 89%. Peaky Blinders’ first season had the same score when it was released, and it is a strong indication that fans are loving the show.
While Netflix has yet to make an official announcement, Knight told HELLO! magazine that he is already working on Season 2. This means if everything goes well, House of Guinness will not end as a one-season show, but will last for multiple seasons, following more obstacles faced by the Guinness family. Thus, like Peaky Blinders, it will get the opportunity to leave its mark.
However, House of Guinness is more than just a replacement. It stands on its own story and cast, which has made it quite a popular title on Netflix. The show is directed by Tom Shankland and Mounia Akl. Shankland is also an executive producer on the show along with Steven Knight, Karen Wilson, Elinor Day, Martin Haines, and Ivana Lowell. The production companies behind the show are Kudos and Stigma Films.
House of Guinness is streaming on Netflix.
