With the release of Squid Game Season 3, the story of the massively popular K-drama has come to an end. The Netflix series was able to tie up most of the loose ends in its final six episodes, and also answered some long-standing questions.

One question that everyone had in mind since the beginning of the show was how In-ho turned into the Front Man. Audiences were curious to know how a seemingly normal family guy became a menacing villain and took charge of hosting the games.

Squid Game Season 3 has now finally delved into the backstory of the Front Man. In the penultimate episode of the series, it is revealed that In-ho killed his fellow players before the last challenge when he participated in the games in 2015, and hence, Oh Il-nam found him worthy of being the Front Man.

In-ho turned into the Front Man after killing his fellow players in Squid Game

In Squid Game Season 3 Episode 5, when only nine players remain in the challenge, the Front Man calls upon Gi-hun. He removes his mask, revealing his real identity as In-ho. Gi-hun is shocked and infuriated by the betrayal, but In-ho offers him an opportunity to make it out alive of the games.

He gives him a knife and tells him to kill all his fellow players at night so he and Player 222’s baby can be the winners of the game. Otherwise, the rest of the players are confirmed to gang up and eliminate Gi-hun and the baby.

When Gi-hun returns to the dorm, he tries to go ahead with the plan and place the knife on Player 100’s neck, who is fast asleep. However, he does not muster up the courage to murder someone and decides to drop the plan.

Meanwhile, the Front Man watches Gi-hun’s actions on camera and reflects on his time in the game. With flashback scenes, we see In-ho being a part of the challenge. It looks like Oh Il-nam, aka the old man from the first season, had offered him the same choice in the past as the Front Man later gives to Gi-hun.

But unlike Gi-hun, In-ho decided to embrace his dark side. He slashed his co-contestants with the knife to become the winner of the game and take home the prize money of 45.6 billion won. Oh Il-nam was likely impressed by his ruthlessness and decided to make him a part of the organizers.

In Season 1, the Front Man is seen managing games, while Oh Il-nam participates in them as Player 001. Following the old man’s death, In-ho becomes the head of the event in Season 2 and decides to enter the challenge as Player 001.

When the players decide to rebel against the organizers, In-ho pretends to join them and fakes his death to return to his Front Man duties. By the end of Squid Game Season 3, he orders the destruction of the island when the coast guard approaches it, and later visits the US to provide Gi-hun’s daughter with his credit card containing the prize money.
