CBS's popular sitcom Two and a Half Men, starring Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer, debuted on September 22, 2003. The series wrapped up after twelve seasons in 2015.

Created by Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn, the series delves into the lives of the Harper siblings, Alan, played by Jon Cryer, and Charlie, portrayed by Charlie Sheen. Charlie is a professional jingle writer and lives in a beachfront Malibu house. His life takes a turn when Alan (professionally a chiropractor) and his son Jake move in with him after his divorce. The series explores their chaotic relationships, dating disasters, and family drama.

However, the popular series faced a crisis in 2011 when Charlie Sheen was fired from Two and a Half Men following a meltdown involving substance abuse and his public outbursts against the show's creator, Chuck Lorre. His character, Charlie Harper, was killed off-screen, and guess who the makers roped in for the show? It was none other than Ashton Kutcher. Kutcher played the role of Walden Thoreau Schmidt for over four years in Two and a Half Men.

After Charlie Sheen's messy exit, Ashton Kutcher joined Two and a Half Men in 2011. Kutcher was roped in for the role of Walden Schmidt, a young internet billionaire and an emotional mess who bought Charlie's beachfront Malibu house after Charlie was run over by a train in Paris.

Schmidt was introduced in Two and a Half Men Season 9 Episode 1 titled "Nice to Meet You, Walden Schmidt". Kutcher played the role for over four years until the series wrapped up in 2015. He has appeared in over 85 episodes of the series. Although he was a replacement for the character Charlie Sheen, he was quite different from the former owner of the Malibu house. Despite his wealth, he is surprisingly down-to-earth and often emotionally vulnerable. He is kind and generous yet romantically quite unlucky. He is childlike at times and seeks the family's love and warmth. He eventually forms a close bond with Alan and Jake.

After Two and a Half Men, Kutcher appeared on several projects, including The Ranch, Vengeance, Stoner Cats, and Your Place or Mine.

Why did Two and a Half Men end after twelve seasons?

The popular sitcom ended after the twelfth season in 2015, primarily due to the makers' decision. The creative team thought that Season 12 was a fitting and natural end to the series. However, several secondary reasons need to be considered.

One of them was Charlie Sheen's publicized exit in 2011. Sheen's character was written off in Season 9, and the makers added Ashton Kutcher as a replacement for Charlie's character. Initially, viewers quite enjoyed Kutcher's addition in Season 9, and his debut broke records; however, the viewership gradually dropped in the following seasons. By Season 11, the viewership had decreased to 8-11 million views, down from an average of 15 million views. Many complained that the show lost its charm after Charlie Sheen's exit. Even the finale episode of the show received mixed responses.
