Created by Jon Favreau, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is an upcoming live-action/animated comedy series that is also written by Jon Favreau. The show stars Kathryn Hahn and Steve Martin. While other specifics remain under wraps, what fans know till now is that the show will focus on Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who is an oft-forgotten precursor to Mickey Mouse.

According to The Direct, the series is being filmed at Disneyland and the show will be a live-action and animation hybrid. The production is underway in Anaheim, California and it is expected that the new Disney+ series will release sometime next year.

Jon Favreau is known for creating the hit show, The Mandalorian, which expanded the Star Wars universe and was a show that catapulted Pedro Pascal to fame. However, reports from The Direct mention that the writer will have a lean episode count while creating Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Here are the details.

Jon Favreau and Disney+ have a strong association as The Mandalorian was also streamed on Disney+ and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit will also stream on the same platform. However, it has been reported that the show could be one of the shortest series ever on the streaming platform.

According to Daniel Richtman, "I've learned that Jon Favreau's Oswald series will consist of only three episodes, which is incredibly short, even for a Disney+ show."

While the reason for the paltry number of episodes has not been revealed and other details about the show are also under wraps, The Direct mentions that a short episode count could be a sign about how things will look in the future at Disney+. The Direct mentions that while it does not mean that all the shows will have three episodes, it could indicate that Disney+ wants to play around with its streaming formats.

The Direct mentions that MCU fans will be disappointed to know that the show will only have three episodes. While most shows on the OTT platforms have an eight- or six-episode format, Disney and other giants are now rethinking their strategy as financial considerations also have to weighed into.

Therefore, even though Oswald the Lucky Rabbit has three episodes, it does not mean that Disney does not keep the show at equal importance.

The move could also benefit the creators as streaming platforms like Disney could give control to the creators and let them finish a story in three episodes, if it does not warrant more story. This would also deter the shows from unnecessary stretching, which lowers the quality of the show.
