The popular Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, for now, has one season under its belt. An adaptation of the beloved Rick Riordan books, the series was well-received by both fans and critics despite some complaints about changes made here and there. But despite those changes, fans can't get enough of this series.

Rick Riordan's latest update regarding the future of the series has fans excited about the possibility of Percy Jackson and the Olympians being able to adapt all five books of the series. He provided this information during a recent Q&A session on Goodreads. We already know that the second season will begin streaming this December, and Disney renewed it for a third season that will adapt the third book, The Titan's Curse.

What did Rick Riordan say about potential Percy Jackson and the Olympians Seasons 4 and 5?

As stated before, Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan presided over a Q&A session on Goodreads, where fans asked about the future of Disney+ live-action series that are adapting his books. We know that the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be released this year. Moreover, the series was officially renewed for a third season on March 14, 2025.

But for now, the status of seasons 4 and 5 remains unknown. When Riordan was asked about the possibility of Percy Jackson and the Olympians making it to the fourth and fifth seasons, he responded:

"I'm guardedly optimistic about future seasons. No one knows the answer right now. It will depend on continued viewership, but we're certainly off to a great start! All I can say for certain is that everyone involved is hoping and assuming that we will have the full five-season arc, but we'll just have to wait and see. As for how fast they will come out, the hope is certainly that we can pick up the pace of release dates, but a season still takes a long time to create, so I'm not sure exactly what that will look like."

Therefore, for now, it looks like the status of seasons 4 and 5 is squarely dependent on the viewership numbers for the next two seasons. But given how well the first season performed between December 2023 and January 2024, it won't be surprising if the next two seasons were to perform the same if the makers manage to stay close to the source material.

However, apart from books 4 and 5, some fans are wondering if Disney will go beyond the first five Percy Jackson and the Olympians books and even build towards the other characters, like Magnus Chase, who is the cousin of Percy's girlfriend, Annabeth. Moreover, it must be noted that there are two more Percy Jackson books apart from the five.

Will Disney greenlight shows featuring other characters from the Percy Jackson Universe?

As Riordan said in the Goodreads Q&A session, it is entirely reliant on the viewership number. Disney will probably greenlight the other two books of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and even the rest of the universe only if the viewership numbers dictate so.

Riordan's world is filled with a goldmine of opportunities, but that doesn't automatically translate to high viewership. Look at the two Percy Jackson movies that came before the Disney+ series.
