Reacher is one of the most popular shows on Prime Video. Audiences love to see Alan Ritchson in the titular role of a former U.S. Army military police major who defeats some formidable villains every season.
However, for three seasons, Jack Reacher mostly hunts down his enemies with his sheer size and massive strength. The formula has been used so many times in the show that a section of the audience is almost tired of it.
That is why we are looking forward to the Neagley spin-off. The upcoming series, set in the same universe as the original show, brings back Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, a corporate security professional.
However, what makes her story special is that, unlike Jack, she is not a superhuman who defeats criminals easily. Instead, she relies on strategic techniques to maneuver out of dangerous situations, which is a welcome change from Reacher’s overused action tactics.
Neagley using strategy instead of strength is a welcome change from Reacher’s overused action tactics
Both Frances Neagley and Jack Reacher are skilled at fighting villains, but their approaches are pretty different. Jack is known for using his size and strength while facing off with his enemies. He often charges into danger and wins fights with his power and muscles. His superhuman strength gives him a huge advantage over his opponents.
After the first two seasons, Jack seemed to be almost invincible. To spice things up, the creators decided to introduce Paulie in Season 3, who had an even more muscular build than Jack. But the protagonist was able to get the better of him as well.
Now with the Neagley spin-off in development, we are finally getting a protagonist who is not a superhuman, but instead relies on her skills and techniques to overpower dangerous threats. The corporate security professional is known for taking a smart and calculated approach in deadly situations.
A perfect example of this is showcased in Reacher Season 3 Episode 6. In the episode, when hitmen break into Neagley's office to kill her, she does not panic or rush at them. Instead, she stays calm and hides while monitoring the situation carefully. She sets traps and waits for the right moment to grab her gun.
She eventually takes out each attacker one by one, while they are taken aback by her move. This shows that while Jack depends on strength, Neagley relies on intelligence and quick thinking. She knows she can not win by fighting directly, so she outsmarts her enemies.
Her calm attitude and clever planning make her just as dangerous as Jack, but in a novel way that gives fans something fresh to look forward to. Neagley’s tactical style is what makes her upcoming spin-off series even more exciting.
Her way of handling threats proves there are more ways to be a hero than just using brute force. Hence, the Neagley spin-off will break free from Reacher’s most overused formula, which could work in the show’s favor. Neagley is expected to premiere on Prime Video in 2026.
Apart from Maria Sten, the show will star Adeline Rudolph as Renee, Greyston Holt as Detective Hudson Riley, Matthew Del Negro as Pierce Woodrow, Jasper Jones as Keno, and Damon Herriman as Lawrence Cole. Alan Ritchson will make guest appearances in the series.
Reacher Seasons 1 to 3 are streaming on Prime Video.
