The third season of Ginny & Georgia proved to be particularly painful for the character of Arthur Miller, played by Diesel La Torraca. In addition to the manipulation that was deployed by Georgia to have Austin testify against his own father, Gil, in order to save his mother, Austin soon began feeling the weight of guilt.
While Diesel La Torraca has been a regular part of Ginny & Georgia ever since the first season, and his performance on the Netflix show has been received positively, several members of the audience were recently seen calling out the young actor on account of his age disparities between the second and the third season.
Here's everything that you should know.
Diesel La Torraca won't be leaving his character Austin Miller on Ginny & Georgia
Ginny & Georgia star Diesel La Torraca was born on March 1, 2011, and has been a part of the entertainment industry since an early age. The Australian-American actor is currently fourteen years old, and his character of Austin Miller, is presented to be nine years old on the Netflix show.
As a result, many have questioned the growth spurt pertaining to La Torraca that was visible on the recently concluded third season. This led to persistent rumours about him being recast in favor of another young actor more appropriately suited to the character's age. Show creator Sarah Lampert, however, categorically denied any move to recast and claimed that La Torraca was the definitive Austin for her.
La Torraca was born into the entertainment industry with her mother being an actress. The first commercial he ever did was for a nappy brand called Aldi, and this was right after he was born. He followed this up by appearing in several other commercials until 2017, when he auditioned for his first film, i.e., Little Monsters.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he had to go back to Australia and could relocate back to the States only after the pandemic had subsided, eventually landing the role of Austin on Ginny & Georgia.
Diesel La Torraca speaks about his age concerns about Ginny & Georgia
La Torraca sat down for an exclusive interview with Teen Vogue, during which he shared his own insights relating to the growth spurt experienced by her character in between seasons two and three. When asked if the crew and the creator logistically tried to work around his growth spurt, La Torraca explained:
"Well, honestly, we kind of ignore it a little bit! (Laughs) It's kind of just like… there's a 14-year-old sitting at the table with Harry Potter glasses on that's supposed to be nine. And that's okay! In some shots I did have to bend my knees a little bit to look a little shorter than Toni, or they got her an apple box a few times, but for the most part we've kind of just kept the show running."
Ginny & Georgia is available on Netflix.
