How Peacemaker Season 2 twist makes Rick Flag’s death even more heartbreaking

Peacemaker Season 2 definitely takes the viewers on a rollercoaster ride with new storylines connecting with the previous ones. One such moment is how the third episode of Peacemaker Season 2 shows Rick Flag’s affair with Harcourt and then his eventual death.

Just like the other members of the team, Harcourt was also suffering in Peacemaker Season 2, and it was related to something that Peacemaker did. This sudden revelation of the twist in the series makes everything clearer and even more heartbreaking.

Peacemaker Season 2 twist about Rick Flag’s death

At the beginning of the third episode of Peacemaker Season 2, Rick and Harcourt are shown to have a relationship. Though Rick was still with June, Rick’s secret relationship with Harcourt was a crucial part of each of their lives. This can be seen when Harcourt says that she does not want to ruin what they have. They were confidants and shared a deep bond.

This is also the last day when Harcourt and Rick speak, as Rick was supposed to be shipped off to Corto Maltese, where he meets his eventual death at the hands of Peacemaker. The scene is truly brutal as Peacemaker uses a shard from the debris and pushes it into Rick’s heart, leading to his death.

Rick’s death left a huge impact on Emilia, which is very much clear in her behaviour in Season 2. Rick’s death finally makes it clear why Harcourt was behaving the way she was during the party. Viewers were definitely not expecting this turn of events in the series.

Rick’s connection with Harcourt makes his death such a devastating ending, not just because of the impact it has on Harcourt but also because of the impact it has on Chris. Rick’s death makes Emilia’s character more complex and sympathetic. Her actions finally received meaning.

Though we still don’t know the extent of information Harcourt has about Peacemaker’s involvement in killing Rick Flag, her coldness towards Peacemaker seemed like a protective shell for a deeply wounded heart.

Peacemaker knew that his act of killing Rick Flag was not the right thing. Rick’s death looms heavily on his mind, as can be seen in Peacemaker Season 2. The connection of Rick Flag with Harcourt makes things even more complicated now that Chris has feelings for her, and his feelings lead him to a dangerous path in the alternate dimension where he killed the other Chris and is now taking over his place.

The other dimension’s Harcourt does not have the same trauma that Harcourt from this dimension has. Rick Flag is still very much alive in the other dimension, and Chris’s encounter with him at ARGUS definitely is an awkward one. Chris is still reeling from his past actions, which makes him uncomfortable in front of the other dimension’s Rick.

Peacemaker Season 2 episode 3’s twist transforms Rick’s death from a tragic incident to an emotional core for the series. It was both Peacemaker’s moral failure and the end of Rick and Harcourt’s bond. This added storyline makes Rick’s death truly a heartbreaking one in the series.
