Apple TV's Silo concluded its Season 2 with a twisted finale that leaves its protagonist Juliette and Bernard's fate in a fire in the end.
After much struggle and help from Solo, who offered her a proxy orange suit, Juliette manages to warn the people in Silo 18 about the dangers of the outside world. However, soon after, she gets trapped in a fire in the airlock with Bernard.
With Season 3 confirmed and on its way, the Season 2 finale sets up for an interesting Season 3 that will uncover the origins of Silos, as teased in a flashback in Episode 10. In the flashback, a freshman congressman and a journalist meet in Washington, DC, and their conversation hints at the origins of these bunkers.
More on the Season 2 ending and how it sets up the show's future in our story.
Did Juliette die at the end of Silo? Exploring her fate in the Season 2 finale
While Juliette faced many difficulties reaching her home and warning the people not to come out, she finally succeeded in her mission. With Solo and Hope's help, she wrote, ' Not safe. Do not come out.' on a piece of white cloth for the people to see.
People in Silo 18's cafeteria saw her approaching from the hill and were happy to see that she was alive, and also got her message, which saved the Down Deeper's lives as they did not open the vault door.
Earlier in the episode, Solo told her about the 'Safeguard Procedure', which is a protocol that can be practiced by the founders, where they release enough poisonous gas through Level 14, that could kill 10,000 people at once. Juliette feared that the rebellion in Silo 18 would activate this protocol.
In the final moments of the Season 2 finale, Bernard went out of the airlock to experience some moments of freedom, which closed the doors automatically. But Juliette saw this and entered the airlock quickly, which triggered a fire purge, and both she and Bernard were engulfed in flames, leaving their fates in danger in the Season 2 finale.
What does the Season 2 ending mean for Silo Season 3? Exploring the fates of Juliette and Bernard
Since showrunner Graham Yost confirmed that Season 3 would adapt Hugh Howey's second book Shift, it is expected that Season 3 will follow the origin story of the Silos, which was also teased in Season 2.
The Season 2 finale featured an important flashback that teased what is to come in Season 3.
According to the meeting in the flashback, Iran allegedly denoted a radioactive dirty bomb in the US, and the bunkers could have been created then to keep the people safe from the radioactive side effects of that nuclear blast. This story could be expanded in Season 3, uncovering the truth about these structures,
In addition, since Yost confirmed in an interview with TVLine, that actress Rebecca Ferguson will be a part of Season 3, it is likely that her orange firefighter suit will save her from the fire and she will survive:
“In the book Shift, Juliette doesn’t appear until like the last page, right? It’s about this silo [No. 18], but it’s also the origin story of the whole silo project. I would say that we have Rebecca Ferguson playing Juliette, and she is not just going to be in the last scene of the season. Juliette would be a big part” [of season 3]”
But the same couldn't be said about Bernard's fate as he will most likely perish in the fire and, like the books, will die. This would require a new IT head in Season 3, hinting that either Luke or Camille could step in as new IT heads.
