While Succession's Logan Roy (played by Brian Cox) does not die until season four's episode three, Connor’s Wedding, his death and the reaction of his children had been foreshadowed way back in season one.

As the title of the show suggests, the four-season HBO comedy-drama revolves around the Roy family, where the children look forward to their father stepping down as the chairman of Waystar RoyCo. But Logan does not step down until the very last episode, which is followed by a series of reactions from three of his children.

Kendall (played by Jeremy Strong) is somehow processing his emotions, Roman (played by Kieran Culkin) is in denial, and Shiv (played by Sarah Snook) is lost somewhere in her mind. While Logan's death took place in season four, the reactions of three of his children were eerily similar to when Logan suffered a brain hemorrhage in season one.

Succession's biggest moment was foreshadowed seasons ago

In Succession's season one, episode two, Sh*t Show at the F**k Factory, Logan Roy suffers a brain hemorrhage. While he is getting brain surgery, his children are worried, but not like any other normal children. They are perhaps more worried about the press release than about Logan. Since Logan's death was a possibility even then, the children were trying to think about how to go forward if he passed away.

Kendall was freaking out but did not know how to deal with his emotions. Instead of actually processing them, he was trying to keep himself busy by getting Logan the best medical care and checking the stock price. Siobhan was feeling all her feelings, crying at the thought of Logan's critical condition and what it could mean. Meanwhile, Roman acted the strangest; he was in denial. He knew what was happening but was not fully accepting the fact that Logan might not survive.

Logan does survive, followed by a long battle of the siblings to be his ultimate successor and inherit the company. However, when he actually dies, the siblings act very much like they did in season one. It's as if the Succession creators had told us long ago how the children would react to their father dying without killing Logan off.

Any viewer of Succession who has paid attention to the show from the beginning knows that Logan's death was inevitable. He had declared he wouldn't retire. For his power-hungry children, the only way to get what they wanted from the company was to make a plan and execute it after his death. Hence, Logan Roy's death has been a given from the beginning.

Kendall even mentioned at Logan's 80th birthday that they did not know how many birthdays Logan would live to see. Hence, Logan's death and his children's reactions have been foreshadowed quite literally from the beginning of Succession. Despite knowing it would happen, fans were devastated at Logan's death. He was not the best person by character, but fans had grown to love-hate him.

Succession showed us how some families are not like others. Some families are actually empires, and there is always a battle of who will sit on the throne. It is hilarious how none of the siblings get the throne at the end, and that teaches how ambition is a strong force, but you might crash headfirst if you aren't careful.

All seasons of Succession are available to stream on Max.
