Apple TV premiered The Buccaneers Season 2 finale on August 6, 2025.
The episode marked the end of the titular Buccaneers, Lizzy (Aubri Ibrag), Nan (Kristine Frøseth), Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse), Conchita (Alisha Boe), and Mabel (Josie Totah )'s stories for the sophomore season.
While the historical drama series, which is quickly climbing the platform's top charts, has not yet been renewed for another season, the season 2 finale sets up an exciting new season (if it happens).
The Buccaneers faced many obstacles in the show's latest season, from adultery, failing marriages, to even kidnapping, but they eventually emerged triumphant because of each other's support. One of the most interesting plotlines in The Buccaneers Season 2 was the love triangle between Nan, Lizzy, and Theo, which had a shocking outcome and a surprise arrival.
What does the arrival of the new Duke of Tintagel mean, and what will happen with the titular five women in Season 3?
Here's everything to know.

How did The Buccaneers Season 2 set up the third season? Exploring the arrival of the new Duke
The Tintagel masquerade ball was surely one of the highlights of The Buccaneers' Season 2 finale, and a means for both Nan and Theo to make their respective announcements to the world.
The finale saw Duke stealing Nan's spotlight and, surprisingly, abdicating his Dukedom in front of society and publicly accepting his love for Lizzy. This announcement was not only his way out of the marriage (unknown that she is pregnant with his child), but it also frees Nan.
Following this shocking announcement, The Buccaneers Season 2's final moments featured a mysterious man riding towards Tintagel Castle, who is none other than Theo's half-brother Kit. Since the Dowager was fearful about Tintagel's future, she arranged for her step-son to take the throne after Theo's abdication.
As executive producer Beth Willis told Decider, while the Dowager knows that Kit is 'trouble', he is currently her last resort to secure Tintagel:
“The Dowager’s obviously had some kind of relationship or contact with him over the years and has told Reed that she thinks he’s trouble...He’s trouble, is the tease, I suppose.''
What does The Buccaneers Season 2's ending mean for the protagonists?
Following The Buccaneers Season 2's ending, Lizzy and Nan are at a crossroads, after Nan spitefully revealed her pregnancy to Lizzy. After Theo's announcement, Nan is finally free to move out of her loveless marriage and consider new prospects, like Guy, who actually loves her. In the final moments, she runs on the beach, hinting at freedom for her character in Season 3.
Discussing her character's choices in the finale and her future, Kristine Frøseth said in an interview with People Magazine:
“I was really proud of her when she made that decision. It’s a really courageous decision to leave things behind ... It’s just time to get away...There’s lots of excitement about where the character is going to go and how she’s going to raise this child. Is she going to go back? I really hope she stays by herself."
For Lizzy, while she was bombarded by Theo's public love confession in The Buccaneers Season 2 finale, it came with the abdication of his Dukedom. This change in his status might prompt her to choose between him and Hector Robinson's proposal, who can give her a life of stability, unlike Theo.
Lastly, Jinny, Conchita, and Mabel's characters also underwent drastic changes in The Buccaneers Season 2's ending, suggesting new twists in future seasons. While Jinny's marriage ended, she and Freddie are safe for now at Conchita's house.
Mabel explored her sexuality in Season 2. While she parted from Honoria, her secretive partner, she is sure of her sexuality now. She decides to use this newfound freedom to help people struggling with their sexuality. The final moments of Season 2 featured an important conversation between Mabel and Conchita, who is struggling with money after her husband's death.
This hints that the two women might enter into a business deal together, expanding on the show's themes of womanhood and female friendship.
