At the 15th anniversary of The Walking Dead, some of the biggest stars of the franchise made an appearance during the event. Nope, we are not talking about Norman Reedus or Andrew Lincoln. We're talking about the zombies who showed up to the event to spook audiences. The zombie actors took over the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, during MIPCOM, clad in tattered clothing and grotesque makeup. They ambled through the iconic venue, delighting fans and attendees with their eerie presence, marking one of the most iconic moments of the event.
The immersive experience was an effort to commemorate the franchise's fifteen year long legacy as it continues to enthrall fans. The event underscored the show's evolution from a simple zombie apocalypse tale to a multifaceted universe that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
The event was hosted by Aisha Tyler, who has directed four episodes of the show and has appeared in the spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead. Talking about the show she said,
“It’s not abut the zombies, it’s about the peple. This is a show asking big questions about what it means to be human,”
Scott Gimple, who wrote, directed and produced the franchise also added a sneak peek into what may be the future of the franchise. Speaking during the panel, he talked about The Walking Dead's evolution and future and said,
“It was all one story. It went in all sorts of different directions. Even with characters who have done so many things, we can put them in different worlds where they have different challenges and evolve them through these challenges.”
More details about The Walking Dead's fifteen years legacy
Over the past decade and a half, The Walking Dead has been more than just a television series. It has been a cultural juggernaut that redefined post-apocalyptic storytelling and has been doing it brilliantly with every installment. Developed by Frank Darabont, the franchise brings life to Tony Moore, Charlie Adlard and Robert Kirkman's comic books that formed the cornerstone of the Walking Dead franchise. The stories center on a sprawling ensemble of survivors, who are navigating a world overrun by zombies, known as "walkers".
The series’ impact extended far beyond its original run, spawning an expansive franchise of spin-offs and related media. These include Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Tales of the Walking Dead, Dead City, Daryl Dixon, The Ones Who Live, and numerous webisodes and video games. Together, they expand the universe of the show, exploring new stories, characters, and corners of a world forever altered by the apocalypse, cementing The Walking Dead as a defining saga of survival, humanity, and the undead.
The Walking Dead is available to stream on Prime Video.
