The first official look at Stranger Things Season 5 is finally here, and it is everything and more that fans have been waiting for. Netflix just dropped the official teaser for the final season of the show, and even though many things need to be broken down in the teaser, the one thing that noticeably stands out is the Vecna redesign for Season 5.
Stranger Things Season 4 featured a massive defeat for Vecna, and he sustained a lot of injuries by the end of the season, from both Max and the Upside Down gang. However, Vecna was wounded but not gone by the Season 4 ending, and he's coming back, forcing the Hawkins gang to prepare for the final showdown.
The teaser reveals a short appearance from Vecna at the end, and he looks very different from before. Here's how his appearance has changed in the final season and what it could mean for the finale.
Vecna's redesign in Stranger Things Season 5, the final showdown
Netflix recently announced that Stranger Things Season 5 is all set to premiere in three parts: Volume 1 on November 26, Volume 2 on December 25, and the series finale on December 31, marking the end of the show.
A brand-new teaser was also released just a few hours ago, which, apart from all the extremely chilling and thrilling shots, gives the audience a brief look at Vecna, who looks very different from the last time we saw him in Season 4. This might have something to do with everything that happened in the Season 4 finale.
To recap, Stranger Things Season 4 mainly chronicled the Hawkins gang learning of Vecna's existence and everything that happened leading up to Vecna becoming the controller of the Mind Flayer, who lives in the Upside Down. The last season also revealed Vecna's plan behind everything that has been happening in Hawkins from the past seasons.
Vecna needed four kills in order to create a gate large enough to merge the Upside Down and Hawkins. In their effort to prevent this, the gang decides to use Max as bait for the final kill and fight Vecna when he's distracted. Even though they aren't able to kill Vecna, Nancy, Robin, and Steve end up seriously wounding him.

They set him on fire to break his connection and weaken him, as fire appears to be the Hawkins gang's only defense against everything related to the Upside Down. Nancy also shoots him multiple times, leading him to fall out of a window, after which his body disappears.
Additionally, Eleven also faces Vecna in a psychic battle while the rest of them assault his physical body, managing to free Max from his hold.
All of these injuries sustained by Vecna could have affected his appearance in the final season. He looks much spikier than before, and his one hand, which is bigger than the other, looks much bigger than before.
The teaser only gives us a look at Vecna from the back, but a poster for Stranger Things Season 5 offers a look at his face. His face looks similar to what we last saw in Season 4, but one of his eyes is suspiciously covered by a red cloud.

This minor detail could be foreshadowing an interesting arc in Stranger Things Season 5, from Dungeons & Dragons, the game from which his character is adapted.
In Dungeons & Dragons, Vecna's eye is a powerful artifact that gives a lot of supernatural abilities, like truesight and the ability to see through objects like the ring of X-ray vision does, to the player who wears it. It is possible that Vecna could have lost his eye due to these injuries, and it could go on to make a similar arc as the game in Stranger Things Season 5.
Nevertheless, we will have to wait until November to find out exactly what Vecna's changes in appearance could mean for the show, but one thing is for sure: this season is going to be bigger and better than anything else we've ever seen from Stranger Things before.

"Let's end this, kid!"
