HBO's The Last of Us, released on January 15, 2023, is one of the most popular shows. The series was developed by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann (the game's original writer and director).
It introduced the cherished post-apocalyptic survival tale to a wider audience. Shortly after its debut, it received an official renewal for Season 2. The show follows the story of Ellie Williams, a teenage girl played by Bella Ramsey, and Joel Miller.
The Last of Us concludes with Joel deciding to spare Ellie from a procedure that will kill her but could produce a vaccination. He murders their leader, Marlene, slaughters the Fireflies at their hospital, and deceives Ellie into believing that there is no longer a cure.
More about The Last of Us ending
Ellie's decision to choose kindness over retaliation marks the conclusion of the narrative in the video game The Last of Us Part II. Ellie ultimately gets the opportunity to murder Abby after a protracted and heartbreaking search for the person who killed Joel. But in a pivotal moment, Ellie chooses to release Abby. After that, she finds Dina and their kid gone when she gets home. The last scene, which represents loss, recovery, and closure, shows Ellie walking away after struggling to play Joel's guitar with wounded fingers.
Season 2 of the HBO series follows the same primary plot as the game, but with some adjustments to structure and character development. For example, the program discloses significant moments such as Ellie and Dina's dance considerably sooner, but in the game, the same scenario is shown later via a flashback.
The episode also introduces new characters, such as Joel's therapist, Gail, and provides further history for established ones, such as Abby. The game gradually reveals Abby's motivations, whereas the program shows her intentions explicitly from the outset to let viewers comprehend her character early on.
To fit the television format, the program adds new components and modifies the timeframe, although it maintains the main plot. The journey to the conclusion may appear slightly different, but the emotional elements of love, retribution, and forgiveness are still present. The series will probably conclude on a similarly poignant and thought-provoking note, though, based on the game.
