Will Trent Season 4 premiere is delayed to midseason, and that's good news

Will Trent has been one of the breakout dramas for ABC, as the show has seen a consistent rise in ratings and viewership throughout the three seasons that it has premiered. There's a high chance that Will Trent Season 4 will have a similar fate, owing to Will's personality, which is similar to the titular hero that fans initially enjoyed in Karin Slaughter's novel series.
So, it might come as disappointing news that Will Trent Season 4 will not be premiering in the 2025-26 fall schedule and instead will have a delayed midseason release in early 2026, much like the previous seasons of the crime drama.
However, a delayed midseason release means that the show will not be taking a long midseason break, and fans will not have to spend agonizing months waiting for the season to continue and the mystery to be resolved. Instead, episodes will be premiered week after week without a hiatus, making the experience even more enjoyable for the viewers.
Craig Erwich, the president of the Disney Television Group, previously defended this decision for Season 3 of Will Trent in a conversation with TVLine, when he said:
"And Will Trent is probably one of the bigger breakout dramas of the last two years. It felt like the best way to platform those shows for success was to launch them in January, when we have this huge promotional platform in New Years Rockin’ Eve as well as college sports and Christmas programming, and also to give these shows an uninterrupted run. They’re going to go straight through, and that kind of momentum of original episodes week-in and week-out is just a very powerful engine for both of these shows [Will Trent and The Rookie]."
So, the delayed midseason premiere of Will Trent Season 4 is a blessing in disguise for fans of Will Trent, as it gives them the chance to enjoy and try to figure out the overarching mystery of the season without being derailed by a long midseason hiatus.
According to reports, Will Trent Season 4, led by Ramón Rodríguez as the titular special agent, will be returning with eighteen episodes to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, where he uses his unique life experiences to find justice and, not-so-coincidentally, has the highest clearance rate.
