When Zapata's secrets are revealed in Season 3 Episode 16 Artful Dodge, she loses the trust of the people whose trust she's worked so hard to gain. This episode brings the reality of Project Dragonfly and all of Zapata's secrets to the forefront, with the return of an extremely surprising face for the entire team.

Even though the viewers were aware that Ukweli Roach's Borden survived the explosion in Blindspot Season 2, the team was not aware and was under the impression that he was dead. To the team's surprise, Zapata was aware that he was alive and kept this information from them, leading to the team losing their trust in her, especially Patterson, who was the most affected by this, owing to her history and trauma in this situation.

When the team doesn't stop trying to figure out what the dragonfly tattoo means, Zapata is worried that they'll find out her secret. Rich reveals in this episode that the dragonfly tattoo led him to an empty message board forum, which has suddenly become active and has two messages. These messages are between Atlantic17 and Dragonfly164, which leads the team to try and track the users.

Zapata understands that the team will find out about Borden if they look into the users of the message boards, as his codename has a dragonfly, so she decides to tell them the truth. She tells them that Bowen survived the explosion and escaped, only for the CIA to find him a year later and use him to take down a terrorist. Even though Borden is useful to the team and Zapata ensures that he cannot be free for a very long time, her team, especially Patterson, doesn't trust her anymore, and her friendship with Patterson is effectively ruined.

To make things even worse, Zapata also decides to admit her true feelings to Reade, who is about to get married to someone else, that she loves him. This stuns him as he has no idea how to take that information, so he leaves to try and figure out his feelings, causing Zapata to lose out on two friendships that are really important to her in Blindspot.

To wrap it up, even though Zapata did not go bad in Blindspot, she did make a lot of mistakes that she's made along the way and messed up relationships due to her actions.
